House prices in the north

It's more to do with location. Windermere is where all of the rich city types keep their boats to play on, peaceful lakeside location with good connections to the M6/west coast main line. Second home central in the Lake District. There are other nice converted manor houses/castles in other areas for much less.
Not quite so popular since they introduced speed limits on the lake, but still house prices are ridiculous0 -

(Well, another place I was looking at buying in was Deal...).

Prices drop quickly when you get north of Cambridge and out into the Fens as local jobs become sparse and the road and rail links south into Cambridge are poor.
Peterborough has decent rail and road connections but the jobs market there isn't great.
Thanks for the info, I was worried about that.
The official statistics give a mixed picture and from what I could gather from what the locals have posted, there is now a strong southern influence. But as you suggest that's because of people like me being priced further and further out of the oh-so-important London area.
Oh well, at least I know why Wisbech (Wisbeech?) is so cheap. Strange though, the houses there are actually quite nice!0 -
As people will be able to get everywhere in the U.K. very quickly especially with hyperloop, people will not have to live close or near to London so it will ease pressure but won’t the north be more expensive like the south?0

Do you mean South of the Wall compared to North of the Wall?
If you buy a house up North (or anywhere south of that) and that house miraculously goes up in price that would be a good thing - no?
Bear in mind that there is a chance (however miniscule) that the planet will flip making the south the north and the north the south and my kitchen a mess... Not sure what that will do to house prices. People living in ground floor flats would then have penthouses and penthouses would become basements0 -

The direction of interest rates has flipped, that is probably the biggest factor at the moment.0
