whys it £1500 cheaper than it should be, autotrader shows theres an 03 c200k with 48k miles on for £7,750 and 02's start at £6700, thats without me searching the other usuall places that are cheaper like ebay or knocking off a couple hundred from dealer prices.

I agree with Viz. Most Merc buyers want an automatic. Mercedes sell very few automatics. I couldn't get a value from my usual bloke because he couldn't give me a value on a manual Merc.

    Got this from What Car?

    Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon (00-) C200 Komp. Classic 4dr 2003 (03)52,000 miles

    Dealer £8,520
    Private £8,350
    Part exchange £8,185
    Trade £7,885
    Cost new £23,700

A mate of mine has just offered me his 02 plate auto c 200 with 50000 on the clock for £7000 so I dont think yours is that much of a bargain especially as it is manual
  • Manual Merc = slow seller. I avoid buying them for stock, unless they are for nothing!!
Also the 4 cylinder aint the smoothest around and the Kompressor is just a whining bit of nonsensical rubbish.
    But, that's my opinion.
There are people out there for every car.

Just done a quick search on Autotrader... This was the cheapest auto under 5 years...

    2003 MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS C200K Avantgarde SE Auto

    Price:
    £6,500

I got a new job last Easter and, to cut a long story short, the excitement of having a bit more money than I'd had for a few years, sent me over the edge and I bought a new car. Well, secondhand, but new to me and fairly pricey and luxurious. By my standards anyway.
A couple of months on and I'm not enjoying my job and my boyfriend has lost his. We're setting up in business and I could really do with selling the car.
I've had it on Autotrader for 3 weeks, which cost £44 and I've not had one enquiry (unless you count a dodgy person after my bank account details!)
I've reduced the price 3 times and it's now on at a substantial discount compared with the price it should be according to Parkers.
What should I do? Any ideas to get it sold. I don't want to reduce it much more as it's already about £1500 cheaper than it should be.
I can't believe no-one has even come and looked at it.

Try free ads, Yeller or simply just put up a For Sale sign. Thats how i sold mine.
  • Does putting a sign on the car and parking it facing a main road work ?

At least it's a free ad.

I once took a car it was an old one and parked it on the road outside the Croydon car auctions with a big sign in the front and back windows. I got there an hour before the auction started and within an hour someone had bought it from me and the MOT had about a week left on it.

I was a very happy bunny.

It's highly frowned upon these days by the law, sadly...

Is it really? I travel a lot and there is hardly a day goes by without me seeing a car for sale on the side of the road.

For the type of car and the price you are asking I would give Autotrader another go, but at a larger advert - I know it costs more but I think it needs it. Dont put too many pictures on - let people come and see it to see more. A 'dealer's tip' if you are listing it online on autotrader, put the milage as 55 , not 55000, as this will throw up more on people's searches.

Im looking for a car at the moment and anyone were that is done gets automatically discounted

Im looking for honesty etc and deliberatly countering the mileage factor isnt that therefore I dont particularly want to deal with someone like that

Im sure a lot of people are the same

    Far better being 100% transparent

Your "trick" will be seen by many as scamming

As said the main problem seems to be your price as their are far better cars available, also private plates personal to a seller may put people off

Maybe I didnt explain this too clearly. Its a comment on how people increase the sales. I also did not call it a trick. Try Autotrader - put in a new car and see how many turn up under £500 (as the price input is the price per calendar month) are these main dealers dishonest? Then try it the other way, try a search on all cars with priced highest to lowest and see the mistakes made there - Ford Pumas for £655000??? All doing a similar thing.

The details are also easily mis-entered by sellers, I've seen an advert placed by a neighbour over the phone ended up in the '55k' format instead of '55000' arrangement.

How many decent cars and savings may you have missed by excluding some of these vehicles from your search? eg - a quick search - I wouldnt discount the following because the miles were input incorrectly....
