Pioneer £80 for a replacement power cord

My son has a Pioneer CD player and radio which is approximately 18 months old. We have lost/mislaid the power cable. I contacted Pioneer firstly via a telephone number and then via their Facebook page to try and find out how i could get a replacement.
I was told that they didn't supply anything directly but i should contact one of their national service companies. They emailed me a long list. I contact the nearest company and they came back with a price of £80 to replace it. As the system only cost £120 i thought there must be a mistake and contact a few more however they all came back with the same price. One even said how ridiculous that was.
I contacted Pioneer again to ask if this was the correct price and they said that they thought it probably was. I have asked for a specification (as I think it is a 14V adaptor and i'm not sure of the size of the size of the circular connector) so i can try and find an alternative cheaper version on line but i've not heard back. The Facebook responder was helpful to a point but this isn't his department he can't help me further.
Does anyone have any ideas. I don't want to have to buy a new CD player if possible.

What's the model of CD Player? It's possible someone may be able to find something suitable.0

Pioneer Slim Micro System

I suggest you take the unit along to your local Maplins and ask them to recommend something. You may be able to get away with a generic product like this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/20w-acdc-multi-voltage-power-supply-l06br0

Yes - trying Maplins is a good idea.
You might also want to try posting on the Techie Stuff board too. I've found them helpful.0 -
It appears to require a power supply with a DC output voltage of 19V at 3.2A. central positive, external negative
This is, coincidentally, the same output voltage (and I'd wager the same connector) as most laptop power supplies.0 -

You're right about the voltage however laptops ( definitely HP, Dell & Acer) tend to be positive centre pin.0 -
I've managed to find this on a small table on the bottom 14V 2.85A - +0

Maybe try ebay?IITYYHTBMAD0

What kind of shape is the end that plugs into the item ?
Is it a figure of 8 shape ?0 -
Sorry i'm not very technical! The 'DC in' is a fairly small circular hole with a pin in the middle0
