Car Drivers Seat Damage

Hello, first time here and I wondered if anyone can give me some advice. I have a 4 year lease car being returned soon. The lease was for high mileage at 25000 per year and is currently at 90000 miles. The drivers door seat has deteriorated due to getting in and out of the car. The dealer says that I need to replace the seat bolster, plastic shroud etc at a cost of £500 because being short, I should have always leant into the car, released the mechanism under the seat, slid the seat back, climbed in and then moved the seat back into position! I have driven over one million miles in my life and never had a seat go like this. I say the seat fabric and stitching is not fit for purpose. This is either normal wear and tear or poor fabric etc. What do you think? Any help appreciated. I would post an image but it asks for a URL when its a pic on my laptop not a site.

Has the seating just failed or has it been getting bad for a long time .

we had a fleet of them and most of the seats wore through very quickly in comparison to other cars we had.

I believe we were held responsible and had to pay for the repairs

all cars were 4 year lease with 100,000 plus miles on them

My Mondeo with 118k on doesn't have that, my last Mondeo with 165k on didn't have that problem either.

However....it was long journeys. If you're doing a lot of short journeys and constantly getting and out, such as pizza deliveries and the like then yes a seat could fail like that at what would be considered low mileage for such a failure.

If you got it in writing from the dealer when you got it new, that you had a particular requirement of the seat and he advised you that this particular car was fit for that purpose, then yes, its not fit for purpose. If you didnt tell the dealer thats what you were going to do, and what you do puts extra stress on the fabric (which clearly it has) then its hardly down to the dealer / manufacturer is it?

There are seat repair specialists who'll do a full unnoticable repair for probably £60-80.

They will be able to make it like new again

Paul, thanks will look for seat refurb elsewhere. There is no particular requirement. I am 5 foot 7!! The only requirement of the seat is to sit on it LOL.

I'd find a repairer defiintely. No way i'd be paying them £500!

Problem with repairing is that the material is unlikely to be a 100% match so will end up getting done for repairing it at £500!! anyway
