Credit Rating changed after free access Equifax

I have a good credit rating ( 870-890) with all agencies. I decided to join the Equifax free rating check. The next day their rating dropped by over 100 points. I had done nothing to change this except join their free check. Of course now I want to see why which will cost me £15.

The score is fictional. For heaven's sake, don't go paying for it.0

Double check your adress history and electoral role. Only thing I can think of that dropped your pointless "score" would be some conflicting adress information you supplied when signing up.
That said it's really not worth worrying about and certainly not worth paying for.0 -
If you want to see your pointless Equifax score, then join Clearscore, its free and updates every 30 days.
Not sure how your score can be 870-890 with Equifax and Call credit as they only go up to 700/710. Only Experian goes up to 999.
But the scores are useless because the credit agencies don't lend you credit.0 -
Apologies it was Experian not Equifax.
I was looking around at loans. I had done soft checks with Zopa, when I came back to them for another check they did not want to do further checks as I did not qualify.....0 -
I checked the address and even went to electoral office to confirm it was still valid.0

If the data on your files is correct, that's all you need to worry about.0

Perhaps they dropped your 'score' to encourage you to pay them £15 :-)0

I've been battling with Clearscore for nearly a year as Equifax had given them very erroneous info. I tried to correct them and Clearscore tried but finally had to go to the Ombudsman. Equifax had put on my Credit Report I was in default and repossession. How bad can a report get? They said I'd a previous address I had never lived at and then mixed me up with another person of the same name living in the same town. A t first it was just one company i had never used then after the Ombudsman they finally wrote to me and then conjured up another companny. Both say I need the number of the account I opened but if I never opened these accounts so how would I know the number. They cannot be removed until Equifax divulges these. How can you trust a company like that? By the way my score with Experian is 999. I trust them. All my info is correct.0

Not so with Equifax. They conjure up imaginary previous addresses and firms one is supposed to owe money to. I would not trust what they have to say. They sent me a very rude letter after I contacted the Ombudsman about them, leaving me to find out info they will not let me see. I'm back to the Ombudsman again. Watch my sparks fly.0

Equifax does not like beinjg corrected. I had trouble with them 2008-9 and now for the past year. Experian is excellent and all is as it should be. Put Equifax out of business. Don't use them. If a firnm relies upon their report ask the firm to check with Experian.0
