Kia Picanto - MOT & Servicing
Sorry if this is a silly question but I have a Kia Picanto, still within the 7 year warranty.
Do I need to take it to a particular garage to have the MOT & servicing done to preserve the warranty?
Would it be the case that if a part was needed which was covered by the warranty, I may have to then go to a KIA garage?
Is that a silly question??:o

I think you are allowed to use any garage but to preserve the warranty, only genuine Kia parts must be fitted. Seems simplest just to go to a Kia garage really; problem solved and if anything goes wrong, you will have more goodwill for being serviced by Kia.0

I would use a kia garage
In fact I do for one of our cars a 4 year old Rio
last year for its fourth service I tried 2 different kia dealers and 2 independents, the 2 independents came out more expensive than the dealers but all were within about £200 -
Not legally, but garage needs to be VAT registered and parts fitted should be equivalent to Kia spec.
You might cause delays to warranty repairs whilst you prove what oil & parts etc were used and if they missed, say, a fuel filter, at the specified interval, you could void a warranty claim.
Only Kia appointed dealers can carry out repairs under the Kia warranty0 -
Thanks all, I thought that was the case.
I'm actually having an intermittent problem with my KIA, I wonder if anyone else has experienced the same?
It only happens very occasionally. I get this noise coming from under the steering wheel, near the pedals. I liken it to an old school bell, like a metal rattling noise. I've noticed my break pedal vibrates strongly when this noise happens too.
It only happens within maybe a minute of my car starting, lasts a few seconds and only once in a blue moon.

Removing the cyclist from under the front wheels should solve the problem..:rotfl:I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I would always recommend the car be serviced by a Kia dealer whilst in warranty because of 1) Goodwill and number 2) if KIA !!!! up the service that's their problem and not yours, your still covered, that would not be the case if you had it done at another garage. Eg if they put the wrong spec of oil in the engine, warranty void
Also kia and do good deals if you purchase 3 services together in advance, look on their website or ring up the dealer0 -
Thanks for all the replies... Just need to get my thinking hat on about where best to take my Kia!
I really don't want to take it to Arnold Clark for an MOT again. According to Kia's website, there is a Phoenix garage who can do it. Just wish I could go to my wee mechanic down the road0 -

Note that where you get the MOT done is definitely separate from the Kia warranty.
I am sure a Kia dealer will have to perform any Kia warranty repairs.
I took a 4 year old Picanto to a Kia main dealer in January for its 4 year service (around £200 but they changed quite a lot of parts and I thought it was value for money to keep warranty running and keep the goodwill - independant garage was very similar price for the same work)
I too had a problem that I asked them to look at under warranty - an intermittent thumping/throbbing sound from front left - it came back 'no fault found' but they have asked me to make an appointment for their service manager to sit in the car with me so he can hear the fault and advise. They simply said it should be by arrangement and avoiding morning and evening rush hours. So maybe you could ask your local dealer to do the same.
Hope this helps0 -
check the website as prices do vary between Kia dealers0
