partial switching

I am very much a noob when it comes to switching! If the process is automatic and conducted by your new bank, is it still possible to switch without transferring all the incomings and outgoings and effectively keeping the old account open?

No using the switching service will involve closing the old account.0

Is it really that hard to phone several companies to change the DD details? For many this can be done online.leecharman wrote: »I am very much a noob when it comes to switching! And how many 'incomings' do you actually have?
Using the new 7-days' switching service. No using the switching service will involve closing the old account.
Apparently, the old version is still available that allows partial switching, but can take up to 30 days. Typically, it doesn't qualify for switching bonuses though.0 -
You can definitely switch and keep your old account open however all payments and all direct debits will be switched to the new account and any balance transferred over
your old account will remain open with no balance and no direct debits etc - everything will have been transferred to the new account0 -
Definitely? You can definitely switch and keep your old account open however all payments and all direct debits will be switched to the new account and any balance transferred over

Surely that only applies if you're switching between banks that still offer the old partial process as an alternative to the new(ish) CASS one - I was under the impression (albeit without definitive sources) that most no longer supported the partial model?0 -

Definitely incorrect as far as I'm aware.0 -

They don't advertise it, but most of them will still do it on request. It's often difficult to find any mention on it on their websites.
They certainly won't pay any switching bonuses for it though.0 -

definately right because:
1. I have done it recenty and
2. they say so its all over google - you cant use the 7 day CASS service but you can switch using the slower method eg Nationwide:
Don't want to close your existing account?
Partial switch option via the Current Account Switch Service
You can keep your old account open and still transfer payments to a new or existing Nationwide account through the switching process. We call this a partial switch.

As said, you are unlikely to get any switching bonus though0 -
Also TSB:
If you don’t want to switch everything
The Partial Transfer Service allows you to choose which payment arrangements you would like to transfer to your TSB account. It also gives you the option to leave your old account open.

I haven't checked any others. Lloyds say on their website they don't do partial switches but if you call them and ask they will I know because that is what I did.0 -
I think the key issue here is 'switching'.
Partial switching is not, really, switching.
It's transferring some aspects of one account to another.0
