Car Insurance-Non accident accident

Hi all, I got my car insurance renewal through, it was £360, when I went online I found cover with the same company for £180. I called them as I had to cancel the automatic renewal, but didn't mention the online quote. He asked why I was cancelling and I said it was too expensive. He said it was probably because i'd reported a (non fault) accident in the summer. I didn't claim as I didn't have the other drivers details, and the damage was very minimal. Not sure what to do now, renew online and hope my not mentioning the non claimed accident doesn't come back to haunt me, or call back and try and negotiate.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Going back to the same Insurer and not disclosing an 'incident' that they are aware of on a previous policy would really not be a wise move.

Most web sites will ask if you have been involved in any claims or 'incidents' to which you should answer yes as there is now a record of you reporting it....

As well as your current insurer, you should assume that any insurer you switch to will become aware of the accident, if not now then when you make a claim - either because they look at a shared database, or because they ask to see proof of your no claims bonus (ie your renewal notice, which will likely have a note of the accident).

So hoping to get away with not declaring it would be risky, to say the least.

However if you shop around you will likely get a better deal - some insurers will charge a little extra for a no fault claim or a minor accident with no claim made, but not many would double your premium. And there's a strong possibility that the difference between the renewal quote and the online quote isn't entirely down to the accident - the online quote may well include a new business discount which is missing from the online quote. So what happens if you get an online quote with the incident declared?
  • Thank you both for your replies. I've done lots of quotes and this company are the cheapest by about £80, so it's VERY annoying! I've done another quote including that accident and it came up st £190 with the same company online, so all may not be lost! I've been with them for about 5 years and the renewal quote is always higher than online. I usually call them to confirm. I guess the best thing would be to call them again and ask
