Absolutely. If the trader can't take on the job without you committing a significant sum of money then you should run a mile from them. A small deposit would be reasonable (e.g. 10% of the quote) but anything more than that would have alarm bells ringing for me.0 -
If the person took the money with no intention of doing the job then it's fraud and the police should be involved.0
