Recommendations for fibre broadband

Ive been with BT for quite a few years (broadband service is really good). We live in an area where the normal broadband speed is terrible and so have to have fibre optic and prefer the unlimited option too.
Presently we pay £18.99 line rental and the fibre unlimited broadband is £29, totalling £49.74. I spoke to BT yesterday in an online chat and the cheapest they would do is to drop my monthly cost to £34.99, so saving £15 pm. Im really tempted because then I haven't got the hassle of moving broadband but Virgin are £25 per month following the link on MSE broadband page.
The person I spoke to from BT said that Virgin don't offer the same good service and that the speed drops at peak times unlike BT. Is this true?

BT are not truthfull re VM .
But do you have VM at your property .0 -
Virgin do, in a lot of areas, suffer with terrible congestion issues.0

We don't have VM but our road is covered by VM. We would have a £14.99 activation fee.0

You'd really need to speak to people in the local area who have Virgin, to see what peak time speeds are like.0

If you don't want to swap tell them Plusnet are doing a 12 month contract £25/month, see if they match it. It's owned by BT.
