Do I need to start being tight and stop being generous ?

If it makes you feel good then just try it in smaller quantities as this will help you save money but still feel good about yourself. Dont do do 104 rolls do 1 or 2 slightly larger one per class the kids will Love seeing them but they dont have to eat them themselves the teacher may share it anyway. If the school asks for a cake just do 1 or 2 NOT 5. HAs your school got a PTA or Friends of? sounds like you would be a perfect candidate give your time to help rather than your money.
As for your gran well forget the flowers and just send a home made cake it will be far more appreciated as you took the time to make it and a cake can cost pennies which in your food bill you will hardly notice while the flowers will always cost pounds which takes money out your pocket.
Just try a little at time then you will adjust to it and so will others around you.

I guess it's my own stupid fault for starting it all really. I just think as it's tadpoles last year it's tempting to do it one more time..........................:rotfl:
oh dear that took me so long to write lol lots of more posts have come along.
How about just doing it for your tadpoles class as they are the ones that will remember it the other children wont really think if they dont get one this year limit yourself to the 1 class that way your are still doing it and tadpoles last year will still be in memory, you wont feel so guilty and no one will blame you. If you keep going they will be finding your number next year and calling you back.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

Thanks guys thats all very helpfull.
I might just make 1 large crocodile per class, I think that would work out cheeper. I usually cut open the mouth and put a gingerbread man inside ~ the kids love it as it's really funny:rotfl:
I thought I could make Gran some of Twinks Hob nobs , that's only pence isn't it? I cant go and visit with Mum as she's gone all day ( All my family are in London) and I need to be back to pick up the tadpoles xx
It's definitly food for thought, thanks for taking the time to answer xxSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

ok frogga - you want to do this and i think you will feel bad if you don't - as you say this is tadpole's last year - just don't be tempted to do anythin like this at Tadpole High - for one thing the stroppy teens won't appreciate it and for another there are many many many more kids at a secondary school. As for everything else then cut back if you can - like others have said if you have to make a cake then make one and not five - there are many out there (that'll be me then) who wouldn't bother even doing one so at least you are making an effort. As for the flowers - do you have any in your garden you could take instead.
I don't think you're showing off - of course it's nice to be praised for the special things you do - after all we don't often get praise for the mundane ordinary domestic miracles we pull off every day. Practise saying no though to some things - I have been doing this this year and guess what .... no one died, the world didn't explode and i still have some friends.Having given all this marvelous advice I am reminded that I have promised to make 24 pairs of socks for xmas and have completed ..... er one and a half
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Thanks stefejb , I definitly WONT make them for high school as there are 2300 kids there!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not even I'm that silly!! I have got some sweetpeas in the garden so that's a GREAT idea , why didn't I think of that?
I've been practising saying "no" too , listen
"No"
"No"
"No"
"oh, alright then" ................ Damm! Must try harder.Say it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

Go into the Headteacher and see if the basic materials can be given to you, so that the children can benefit. Even better if you hook up with one class that can make some of the dough and "have a go".
Trust me, a mum in the classroom with old fashioned practical skills is worth a lot to the school... healthy living and all that.
The kitchen staff might even let you use their ovens...0 -
Could you contact the school and offer to teach a class to make the bread mice and hedgehogs. That way the school may provide some of the ingredients and they should have ovens etc to use.
great minds think alike hehe sorry M E0 -
You sound like a very generous person, so don't beat yourself up. Don't think of it as being 'tight', you can still be generous, and make things for people, as they clearly appreciate it and you enjoy doing it. There's no shame in scaling down the amount you give people - as was mentioned, making a few loaves to share rather than a roll for everyone. People will appreciate a smaller gesture just as much, and I'm sure they'll understand if you explain that you don't have the time to make as much as you did before (there's no need to mention money if it makes you feel awkward). If only there were more people who were so generous with their handmade gifts!2015 comp wins - £370.25

Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
Just a thought - you're clearly an unusually talented baker (I just love the thought of a crocodile loaf eating a gingerbread man) - would it be possible for your skill to earn you some money?
Cooking commercially I know involves tedious paperwork, but could you perhaps bake for children's parties locally?0 -
How about offering to make them in school, maybe with their ingredients, schools have massive ovens, just can say you don't have access to the big oven any more but would like to continue.....see what they say. To be honest H&S is high when it comes to catering from home to make money as suggested, having kitchen checked etc can be a right pain, you need seperate sinks for hand washing and washing up in the kitchen etc usually. A lot of schools because of H&S have stopped doing cake stalls or have started asking people to help make them in school.
Being honest about not being able to afford something when you enjoy doing it is VERY hard, one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I was looked at strangly this year when buying raffle tickets for things as I only got £2 when it's usually about £10, but with the move etc I just can't afford it.One day I might be more organised...........
