    All sorted now, thank you.
Andy, Malwarebytes found some 'nasty's' which I deleted as suggested, thank you.
What is puzzling me is how can you switch your PC off at night, then switch it on in the morning and all the fonts and icons have changed?

    ^^ this most likely ..
It has just reverted back to the basic resolution.

If you look in device manager, does your display adapter have a proper driver, or is it using the default microsoft one ?

^^ Yeah that's not native to windows 10 though, that's the onboard Intel HD graphics

I tried to give an answer that would work on any system configuration :)

I don't have a Resolution option like shown in that image ... I have Output To instead.

^^ It all depends on what version of Intel HD graphics you have,
And also if you have more than one monitor connected :)

You say you 'subscribe' to Avast.

    Why???

There are many good FREE AVs.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.
  • Could also try clicking on desktop, hold the ctrl key and rotate the mousewheel - could just be somebody accidentally increased the size of the icons
