Hi All

I am looking to cut my monthly expenses & having brought down some other bills I thought I would get cheeky on my mobile contract. I have been with Vodafone on my current number for just over 13 years now & my daughter has a handset on the contract. I was silly & took out the new iPhone when it came out (yes I know not very MS but hey ho).

My monthly bill comes to £77.65 (my handset is £53.00 & my daughters is £24.65). Again I know its my fault & I shouldn't have taken it out but again hey ho...

I hopped onto live chat to just ask whether there was anything that could be done about my monthly bill & after passing security, including confirming the code that the operator sent to my phone I was told
My number would be brought down to £40.00 in VAT & there would be a 10% reduction to my daughters handset which brings our bill down to £62.19... obviously a result as it brings me down a bit monthly but it seemed too easy.

I have saved the transcript of the chat in case but the language used by the staff member wasnt exactly professional..

Vodafone is lucky to have a customer like you ,it was pleasure to chat with you today ,have a nice day ,bye ,take care ,keep smiling"[/FONT]

Has anyone else managed such discounts on fixed contracts?

  • Be wary... VERY. 1) They may well have set up new contracts. 2) If they have you will either have two contract seach or may end up with ETFs. 3) You may not end up with what they told you in the first place.

You should get written confirmation of the details before agreeing to anything. With Vodafone, you need to then check that what you end up with is what you agreed to. If your're past the minimum terms you would likely do better to give 30 day's notice (OR request the PACs - not both) and move elsewhere. If not, you're likley to either be stuck with what you have until reaching the minimum term or end up with more than you bargained for in my humble opnion.

My contract was only taken out in October just gone & the other handset has 15 months to run too...

I would double check ! I spoke to 7 different people on live chat who all confirmed my accounts were closed, and refund had been sent.

This was all lies, my accounts were left open and no refund had been sent.

After 4 weeks, countless phone calls I finally got it resolved in 1 day by going on Twitter, and then getting to speak with a UK based advisor.

I wouldn't trust anything live chat said. Although they may have done it all properly I would check it out.

It will probably be fine! Just best to get it confirmed !
  • It won't be fine. A contract taken out 5 months ago won't be "downsized" and this IS Vodafone. I wouldn't bother with 191 (as you'll find); follow the advice on the main Vodafone Complaints thread to contact the WRT. If THEY confirm, then you can believe it.

Am sorry (& very happy) to say that I've checked my current charges line for my next bill & the bill has been reduced, in fact it has been brought down to £53.08 inc VAT

Keep a close eye on things. I am happy for you if they do what they say they would, but I'd wait until it all settles down - and I'd been amazed if it's as it appears after that.

It's extremely unusual for a provider to reduce the cost of a contract mid term (especially one with phone + SIM), unless they overcharged you in the first place, something sounds fishy. Check they haven't extended the end date!
