Unusual Flight Delay Compensation Query

Hi,
Got a question regarding flight delay compensation and whether or not I'm eligible to claim.
We flew from Gatwick to Kilimanjaro for the first leg of our honeymoon, and it was all on 1 ticket.
The flight from Gatwick - Dubai was on time with Emirates
The connecting flight with Kenya Airways from Dubai - Nairobi was delayed by 3.5 hours and resulted us in missing our connecting flight from Nairobi - Kilimanjaro.
The next flight scheduled to be with Kenya Airways but ended up being with Precision Airways as we were re-booked. We ended up arriving at our destination around 9 hours later.
Are we eligible for compensation under the EU compensation scheme?
Any help will be appreciated.
Regards,
Andrew

not really unusual - plenty similar tales here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4445423
In short Emirates will reject claim and you will need to go to court, they will defend claim and have previous success here0 -
Hi Caz, thanks for that. Emirates got us to Dubai on time, however it was Kenya Airways who caused the delays, so would I then claim through them, and would I be eligible under the EU compensation scheme?0

Kenya Airways is a non-EU carrier and the delay was outside the EU so does not fall under EU261. You could check their conditions of carriage re delays and also your travel insurance (although many policies only pay token amounts and only after 12 hours)0

Thanks for that Caz, I was unsure with it all being on 1 ticket leaving from the UK, as to who I would claim from if we were eligible0

it is indeed a difficult one - the flight leaving EU was not delayed so no claim against Emirates and the onwards flight was on a non-EU carrier0
