    Hi JB,

Can you explain what you are doing when the connection drops? The reason I ask is that Talktalk currently have compatibility issues with some devices (such as the Playstation 4). If you try to use these devices to stream tv shows / movies etc from the internet - wireless or wired connection - the router will reset periodically.
Can you elaborate a bit more on this point, please?

Perhaps the HG633 isn't coping well enough to be a modem, router and wireless access point at the same time.

Quite possibly. I've had 3 HG633 routers all with the same issue. I've had engineers out unable to identify what was wrong, countless tests done on the line, etc. As soon as Talktalk reverted the router back to v1.16t, the issue was resolved. I dare say this won't impact all PS4 / HG633 users but it certainly impacts a considerable number of them (Talktalks community pages are littered with customers having the same issue). The OP's issue sounds similar so hopefully this information will help them in some way.
Can you elaborate a bit more on this point, please?

Not sure what you want me to elaborate on. The issue I had would only occur when the PS4 was on and streaming (either You Tube or Amazon). When streaming a video, the routers lights would all go off (with the exception of the Power light). I would lose my internet connection and the video would stop. Then all lights would go out and the router would restart. While restarting, the internet light would flash red for a few seconds. It would take about 1-2 minutes before the video would continue to play. Usually it would happen every 5 minutes but sometimes it would last up to 10 minutes without failing.

Talktalk mentioned that the router appeared to view the PS4 as a security threat and was designed to reset if it thinks it's under attack. I don't know how true that is, may have just been a way to divert the blame!
  • @weejangus, thank you, that's very useful feedback. Luckily both TalkTalk and Plusnet let you use your own router, but if I can avoid the expense sticking to the one they supply, so much the better! I suppose I'll have to search and ask on the plusnet forum what the known issues with their router are.
  • Thanks Weejangus! Our household uses laptops to stream Netflix etc but quite often I've found that the connection has dropped when I wake up in the morning. Unless I've been streaming in my sleep ;) It also happens a lot when I get in from work so to me, there's no logical explanation for it (my limited tech logic anyway)

I will defo try your tip of logging into the router and reverting back to the old software. Thank you!

All advice is much appreciated :)

  • All this puts me off joining talktalk. I signed up for unlimited adsl broadband for £22.95 for a 12 month deal through topcashback.
called in my local Currys last Sunday and they offer a 12 month deal for £20 a month plus £50 cashback. I know i'm getting £90 from topcashback if it tracks but surely the broadband should be the same price.

Both deals are for 12 months

Thank you Emma, I'm not on Twitter but I will look into registering on the Talk Talk forums. Is there anything I ought to mention in the forums for assistance (quote this message for example?)
