New car, option I specified now standard

Not that you've explained it better, I get your point. If you haven't had your build slot confirmed, you're going to want to move what was an optional extra, as well as the price for that optional extra and have it as part of the standard build.
Surely the dealer should be able to remove the option and leave it at that.0 -
So, my original question (maybe I didn't phrase it clearly), can I be charged for something that's no longer chargeable?
You aren't being.
You agreed to pay £x for the car including that feature.
You are paying £x for the car including that feature. Because of your agreement, £x is cheaper than the current price, because you have been protected from the price rises.0 -
Looking for some advice on my situation.
Ordered a new car last June , there was upto 12 months wait and was informed that the price at time of order will be price protected against any price rises . The price has risen twice since june, however, an option that I ordered is now standard.
Can I be charged for this option or should the cost be subtracted? That's a presumption ... but most likely correct.
Er, no - it's in the first post.:hello:0 -

Er, no - the OP hasn't made any comment as to how the current standard price (after 2 increases) compares to the original standard+option price. I would guess that the current standard price must be less than the originally agreed standard+option price or the OP wouldn't be asking the question.0 -
Base price of car is price protected, any options specified at time of order can be removed or others added upto the date when a build slot is allocated.
When I heard the option was going to be fitted as standard, I rang the dealer and asked for the option to be removed, it was no longer possible to, not because the car had a build date, but because it was showing as being a standard feature, the other options I'd specified were still possible to remove or different ones added.

Anyone here with actual advice/knowledge on this please?
As I understand it, you have a contract with the dealer to buy a car with a certain specification at an agreed price. The manufacturer is not a party to the contract.
Any change in prices by the manufacturer is therefore irrelevant - and the price list is merely a guide in any event.
You are still going to get the car you specified at the agreed price, so you have no complaint.0 -
If you read what the OP has actually said, the VEHICLE price was protected.....not the price of the add ons. These can still be amended at today's prices so if he decided to add on something extra he'd pay today's prices, and equally if he wants to remove an extra he can do so. What Ford are saying is that he can't remove this particular extra due to the fact it's now a standard item on their computer for that car. I imagine it's a case of 'computer says no'.
How much was the extra? I would say to them well if you can't get the computer to fix the issue, give me that value back in some other way like servicing or something. I can see why the OP is miffed, he isn't trying to have his cake and eat it at all.0 -

He also, at that time, specified the option, which increased the base price to that figure of £x.
He can add other optional features. He can take other optional features off. But he cannot take that option off, because he cannot order the car now without that particular feature.
The base price of the car is now higher than the price he agreed to pay. He agreed to pay that price for the car with that feature, he is paying that price for the car with that feature. He is still getting the deal he asked for, and was promised.
The only difference is that the base price has increased past his agreed price by an apparently smaller margin, because the base price now includes what was previously an extra cost option.
Turn the situation round.
If the base price at the time he placed the order included the feature, and a spec change meant it was now an extra-cost option, he would be protected from that price rise - because he would have ordered the car with that feature for price £x, and would still be buying the car with that feature for price £x, despite the apparent price increase being greater. If he would not have been happy to pay the option price in that situation, then he should not be arguing for getting a reduction in the agreed price now. The situation is exactly the same.0 -

No, he didn't. He said "Ordered a new car last June , there was upto 12 months wait and was informed that the price at time of order will be price protected against any price rise".
No mention there of the "vehicle" price, or of the extras not being included.0 -
The OP explained in a later post that: Base price of car is price protected, any options specified at time of order can be removed or others added upto the date when a build slot is allocated.
