Tenants Liability Insurance

Hi,
I will be soon moving into a rented house. As part of the tenancy, I must have Tenants Liability Insurance. The letting agent has told me that their partner will call to give me a quote, however, in order to try and get a more competitive quote I thought I would look online myself too.
The trouble is the only insurance I can find for tenants is contents insurance.
The Tenants Liability insurance is to cover situations such as spilling a drink and staining the carpet, burning a worktop with a pan etc, yet contents insurance doesnt cover anything which isnt expressly owned by me.
Does anyone have experience of this kind of insurance, who can offer me some advice or point me in the right direction of where to get a quote?
Thanks so much.

It's just a way for letting agents to extract more money from tenants. You are unlikely to find another tenant liability insurance provider so just take out their policy and cancel it during the cooling off period after you've moved in. Your deposit is there to cover any damage you cause over and above fair wear and tear this insurance is just a swindle.0

Indeed: Get a policy online, then you get 14 days to cancel.
Show money-grabbing idiot agent certificate, move in, cancel policy.
Artful (Landlord since 2000 for what it;s worth..)0 -
These guys sell it - probably cheaper the the quote you'll get from the agent. Not sure how much they charge to cancel.

Tenants liability is included within many contents insurance policies. (Check with your insurer). No need for a separate policy. Our policy is with Endsleigh, and I don't think we are paying any more than on any other Contents Insurance Policy. I found it quite useful when our washing machine leaked and ruined the landlord's kitchen floor.
The agency shouldn't be insisting you get it though, that's up to you. And they certainly shouldn't insist you get their recommended one, they are just doing that so they get commission.0 -

The agency (on behalf of the LL) can insist. They just can't force them to buy a particular policy, e.g. one they are selling. They only ever check a policy has been issue when the contract is signed, so many people cancel within the 14 days."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
shop around and buy online.
Ignore the price, just look at the cancellation fee.
Show the certificate to the agent, get the tenancy agreed, then cancel the insurance (that's why you want a low cancellation fee but don't care about the premium price)0 -
Thanks everyone, I never thought about buying then cancelling it!
I appreciate everyones help.0
