If you have Microsoft Works on your system, that has been known to throw up errors on an install of Word0

I tried to install Word 2007 from a entry key given to me by a friend who had put word 2010 on his system. I failed miserably as others have said it accepted the key number and started downloading but froze. I have kept Word 2002 for all the use it is and has also downloaded Open Office for free.I was pleased to see it was not my incompetence that meant word 2007 would not download, as others have suffered the same problem. I read on a website that you had to put a Microsoft windows patch download to rectify but I could not find the relevant one.0

I remember early last year installing word 2007. I encountered great difficultiesand initially it woluld not install. I contacted Microsoft and they gave me details of a patch/programme to run which solved the problem. Regrettably as it was some time ago I cannot remember any of the the details0

I have tried uninstalling Word 2002 as a possible solution but it won't allow me to do this as it states a program is already running. I have rebooted.
Don't some apps autostart themselves, so that they will respond quickly when you launch them ? So after a reboot they'll just restart.0 -
try this and stop the program running http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000198.htmpsychic_teabag wrote: »Don't some apps autostart themselves, so that they will respond quickly when you launch them ? So after a reboot they'll just restart.0

Steps taken to fix this for another user :-
Uninstalled all components of other office installs and MSworks.
(including compatibility packs etc)
Renamed the office folder in program files to office_old
Renamed the reg key HKLM/software/microsoft/office to office_old
Same for the key in HKCU
Installed new office and tested ok0
