Unable to install Microsoft Word 2007

Options
I have an out of date Word 2002 on my computer. Someone has kindly given me a disk for Miscrosoft Word 2007 but it won't install It accept the key then starts to install then freezes. I have tried uninstalling Word 2002 as a possible solution but it won't allow me to do this as it states a program is already running. I have rebooted. I notice on a Google search that in the past there have been others posting this issue. Is setting up word 2007 for new users being blocked for some reason. If someone could come up with a solution/suggestion it would be appreciated. If not is there a free download for Word 2010 that might work .I have been trying on and off for over a week and have got very frustrated. Word 2002 still is up and running but it is not much use now.

  • Is it a legal disk for 2007 you borrowed?

It is a legal disk and it accepts the key. it starts to install and the little green line shows it is installing the stops.i was given the disk by someone who has upgraded his Miscrosoft Word to the 2016 edition, and he has no use for the 2007 version. I have also try switching off My PC at the plug and switching it on again but this was also unsuccessful.

If Word 2007 has previously been installed, that could be the problem. Do you have any packaging with the CD? Somewhere on there it might say "single licence" or "good for 3/5/7 installs".

No I have just been given the key code and a link to set it up. It does accept the key and starts to install. Maybe the problem lies with the fact I can't uninstall Word 2002 and the system will not accept two different editions of words and then blocks the new one, If there was a problem would not it identify and reject at the time I entered the key code not during the installation

if you have the Word 2002 CD, then I would uninstall word, delete and if any residual directories manually.

if you do not have the 2002 cd you are taking a gamble doing the above as you may not get it back.

dvd hanging with no errors suggest a corrupt/scratched dvd

Tried the fee abiword, it is small and quite good, small, but only word and nothing else.

If you already Googled and found people with same problem, what did they do?

I have installed 2002 and 2007 on the same PC.

I would have advised that you install the 2007 with no internet, you would then have 30 days to activate.

You can verify your key on Microsoft office site but I think support ended for 2007

You can always use free online office or Openoffice and LibreOffice.

To test you could install on a separate PC with no internet, if it does not install you could leave disconnected and set system date to 2010 to see if it does have some sort of internal time out.

Your problem lies here somewhere ..
Use task manager to close any proccesses that look remotely "office like"
    and try the uninstall again.
If you still struggle, download revo uninstaller and use that to rip it out.

Also , for good measure, scan for malware with malwarebytes and adw cleaner to ensure you are starting from a clean slate.

Let us know how you get on

edit : If it is a zip file you have downloaded, you have extracted the files first, havent you ?

The installer service wont be running in safe mode by default.
And this generally is not a good idea anyway
