Well, I didn't get my day in court as the discontinued the claim.
There defence was 1 page long with a dozen photographs of the car and signage (with 3 of the photos copied 3 times and a totally blank page) and mine was 7 pages long with 12 attachments totalling about 24 pages of evidence. I gave examples of where councils accepted flipped tickets based on the serial number being visible (as in my case) and court cases which had been won by the defendant, etc, etc.
I feel robbed! I wanted my defence to be heard!!!
I would really like to thank those people who contributed to my case by direct contribution (suggestions, comments and photographs) and also those people who have gone before me and I have used their examples in my defence. It obviously got Gladstones rattled enough not to continue.
I recon that (other than time), I have spent £14.36 on postage and printing.
Is there any way I can claim this back from the claimant?
 Many, many thanks to all,
 Mark0

            Congrats!
More likely their claim was 1 page long
You can write to teh court and note that, in light of the claimant clearly never intending to take this to a hearing, you would like your NORMAL costs of printing and postage of £14.96 to be reimbursed. =
Do you have evidence of any UNreasonable behaviour under CPR27.14(g)(2) e.g. late service of documents, extremely late notice of discontinuance, refusal to provide documents etc? If so you can ask the court to consider a further costs order unde rthe above CPR - this you can go for your time at either the LIP rate of £19ph OR, as some courts have indicated, they would accept up to 50% of a Band D fee earner as teh rate - whcih is £60ph.0

            Thank you for that.
Dose receipt of the notice of discontinuance the day before the case was due to be heard count as late notice?
 Thanks,
 Mark0

I have sent this to Gladstones:
 With regard to this case;
I will accept the reimbursement of the cost of printing and postage of £14.96.
Further, as you have demonstrated unreasonable behaviour under CPR27.14(g)(2) by extremely late notice of discontinuance, refusal to provide documents and information (with regard to my requests in response to your Letter Before Claim). I request a further £190.00 for 10 hours at the Litigant in Person rate of £19.00 per hour for the work I have put into the rebuttal of the claim.
This gives a total of £204.96
I expect payment of this sum within 14 days of the date of this email, otherwise I shall be requesting the court for direction in this matter.0
