Poundland on a Monday morning!!!

Although I do use Poundland at times this AM got my goat, after queuing behind on person {being served} for 10 mins as the cashier could not count 23 items and 1 carrier bag and get £23.10 as a total:eek:
I was asked to hand over my item along with my £5 note to aid the situation. This I did,the customer then spent 2/3 mins looking for a CC so they could pay and left. I was then informed that as it was one of the old notes the shop could not eccept it:mad:.
Needless to say I took my note back went to Wilko and bought my item there for 25p less:D.

So they did except it, they didn't accept it.0

I think you should have just saved time and money by going to Wilko in the first place, but Poundland were really in the wrong not to accept your fiver as the Elizabeth Fry note is still legal tender until 5th May 2017 (unless it was an even older one such as the George Stephenson).

So
Poundland saved you 25p.., in spite of themselves. Now you know they round certain things up as well as others down.0 -

I agree that perhaps I should have tried Wilko first but as a money saver I try to check out "the cheaper places" first.
What as got my goat is {as you state} the old £5 {not a G. Stevenson one} are still legal tender yet Poundland in my town will not take them and both Lidl and Asda self service tills have spit them back out so I think I will now refuse to take any in my change.0 -
You handed over £5 to aid the situation?
Can you hand me £5 to aid my cashless pocket situation too?0 -
Waste of money. Last time we were in there, they were selling Mars bars, 3 for £1 and queue to pay stretched around the shop.
But Tesco sell them 5 for £1 and there is no queueing with scan&pay at till.I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
Mars bar sizes vary so you can't compare prices that way.
Not that the pound shop probably wasn't more expensive of course - they are usually, but not always, the ones selling undersized items. You need to keep an eagle eye on exactly what you buy and most people simply don't have the time. One advantage of being a geriatric I guess.0 -
The trouble with Poundland is they don't put prices on anything.Je suis sabot...0

Legal Tender only refers to payments that a court must accept by law.
In a shop they are free to accept or deny any form of payment that they decide to. So whether or not the money you handed over was legal tender only matters if they took you to court for payment of the goods.0
