Are Vauxhall Trying to Rip Me Off?
Hi all
Looking at buying a new Vauxhall Corsa, based on Advice from here we're getting a bank loan and looking to keep it for a good long time. The problem is the offers on the Vauxhall site . . . take a quick look at the offers page, http://!!!!!!!.com/1r7lq
Now according to that chart I should be able to get the free insurance and £1000 Ecoflex scrap trade in when paying the VIP (internet) price, right? Even more so if you look at the Ecoflex page and it says:
"Offer applies to Private Individuals and Small Businesses 1-24 (Purchase only Excl. B2B), Vauxhall Partners (Excl. Preference), Military and Diplomatic (UK only), Retail Affinity, Pack Sales and Vauxhall Internet Pricing (V.I.P.) Can be used in conjunction with 1 Year's Free Insurance and 3 and 4 Years 0% Finance Offers"
However, all dealers say this can't be done and even calling up Vauxhall they say that you can't take both the insurance and the scrap trade-in!
Am I mistaken here or should I kick up a fuss? Whereabouts do you think would be the best place to start?
Cheers
Phil

I don't think you can usually combine offers so you might just have to choose one...
Before you buy from Vauxhall online though, have you checked out Deal Drivers? (just noticed that they don't seem to do Vauxhall at the moment though - if you do buy from them, I can refer you for £25 each - but thats not why I recommend them).
Also have a look at Drive The Deal although I don't recommend them after a recent experience, but others speak highly of!

I've tried a few of the broker sites (drivethedeal, autobytel etc) but none of them seem to be able to pass through the "marketing", i.e. the offers on the ranges. Still, if I'm not getting both then it might actually be cheaper to go through one of them. Thanks for the advice!
Does anyone work for, or know someone who works for Vauxhall who could give me a definitive answer? Their helplines are rubbish!

Op, the site looks pretty clear to me - you are looking at the VIP internet price, but just above the bit you click it states the following:
Two great ways to buy your new car from Vauxhall. For 0% Finance, Customer Savings and free insurance Offers from your Retailer, click on the red box below. For simple straightforward Internet only prices on the Vauxhall range, click on the white box.
So to me that is saying you can only have the free insurance and any other offers if you buy through a dealer at the full price, not in conjunction with the VIP price.
We get a discount at work on Vauxhall and we get th eoption of two prices - one with the free stuff and 0% or a bigger discount and no free stuff. The VIP price appears to be the same.0 -
Op - just also looked on drive the deals website - they will give you the free insurance but dont offer part ex. What model are you looking at and I can check the price for you0

Sell the existing car rather than part ex.Happy chappy0

Tomstickland - my car's worth far less than £1000, I'm much better off getting a guaranteed grand than a possible max of £500
Plane Boy - I'm looking at the Corsa 1.3 Club 3dr with solid paint, which on drivethedeal comes to £9393.81 - about £200 saving on the website VIP price. That makes it a bit tricky - as I say, my car's a nail so *if* I can get both offers, that's the best deal. Otherwise going for the free insurance through DTD is better.
Two quotes from the site:
On the Ecoflex (£000 scrap allowance) page: "Offer applies to . . . Vauxhall Internet Pricing (V.I.P.) Can be used in conjunction with 1 Year's Free Insurance"
On the insurance page: "Offer applies to . . . Vauxhall Internet Price (VIP) only."
It's really not very clear how it works to me0 -
DJ - just check on our employee discount page for the model you are interested in. Its £9,202. Not much help to you as I cant buy it for you, however from past experience people have been able to get close / achieve that figure in the showroom with some hard haggling. My advice to you would be to try your luck in a showroom, or just call a couple of dealer up - tell them you are ready to buy and this is what you want, so what is their best price.

Can you use that in conjunction with the £1000 scrap deal, because the car is only £8655 on DTD so if not then the staff discount scheme sounds pants (no offence meant to you).

£8655?! Price I get on DTD is £9393.81! £8655 would be a helluva good price and well worth following up!
Plane Boy - I read those T&Cs as saying that I should be able to get the Ecoflex in conjunction with the VIP price and the free insurance - is that how you read it?
My financial thoughts are as follows:
RRP = £10215
RRP - VIP (£620) - Ecoflex (£1000) - Insurance (~£600) ~= £8000
Haggled Price / DTD (~£9300) - sale of car (~£500) - Insurance (£600) = £8200
I.e. my car's so crap that getting a grand for it makes a higher inital price worthwhile0
