thanks a lot, the usb I am using already has films and memories on it, I can play it on pc, I have VLC instead of windows media. I am now worried in case I loose all the data. No where tv has asked me to Format the stick. There are 2usb ports I will try the other one as soon as Mrs leave the tv alone.
    thanks again for the help.

As I've already said, and pointed you to the precise location of the list, the movies have to be in one of the formats that the TV supports. VLC will play pretty much anything, your TV won't, so the comparison may not be very helpful.

It's very unlikely that anything you are doing to try to read the drive will cause data loss, but to be sure you should make a copy of it onto your computer's hard drive or another USB drive.

thank you agrinnal, I changed the usb to the other input, at first I tried an 8 gb usb stick and the message saying this tv does not accept less than 32 gb. I got a usb 1.5 terrabite from ebay and now it does not recognise the usb.
    still no progress.

Yes. Have you really got a 1.5TB stick? I didn't realise capacities had got that great. There may be a possibility that that's too much for the TV, it may give the lower and upper limits in the manual.

I have got two of these sticks, could have had 2 terrabites for a couple of pounds more. I copied most of the data from the pc including music videos etc. the tv does not replay the movies or music.

I am reformatting the usb stick, the drop down menu only gives two options, exFAT or Nt something. No FAT 32 etc.

    will that do?

What are the file types your trying to play?

MP3, MP4, AVI, MKV, etc etc????

Trouble is Windows doesn't show the file type any more unless you change the folder view settings from the tools menu, which in itself doesn't show unless you select to show it from the organise/layout menu.

Seeing as Sony are really dead against piracy, it's very possible that it won't show or play the commonly used formats.
