Hi all,
This tv I got for the purpose of playing and recording videos, I have not had much luck. It recognises the USB but says no content to play, driving me mad. Any help from the experts?

It is a Bravia.

Is the USB drive accepted by Sony and formated .
    from the manual .
    1. Press HOME, then select [IMG]file:///E:/Sony%20TV/en/manual/share/res_common/S_NUXs_setting.icon.png[/IMG] → [System Settings] → [Recording Set-up] → [HDD Registration].
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to register

many thanks Egan, I tried going through all options, this tv 49wd756 seems to have different menu. When I press home I get all apps, digital pgm list, digital Epg, media and Settings. USB auto start.
I did try to register hdd it just says Usb port was not recognised. Not sure what next. The recognised media is Kingston but it does not play anything.

It does sound like there may be either a fault with the USB port or that it's unable for whatever reason to recognise your drive. However, one thing to consider first is whether there is actually any acceptable content on the drive, my Panasonic TV will only play video files in particular formats but not others, and if your files are all in one of the formats that aren't acceptable then that could be the issue. The supported formats are listed on page 17 of the manual. I had to use a reformatting program to change some videos that I wanted to play on the TV.

    http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/4586685121.pdf

The other thing to check is that the drive is formatted correctly, it must be one of FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS.

Not sure what Bravia model this is from .
But you can find your manual on the web/ Sony support .

    • USB HDD capacities from 32 GB at minimum to 2 TB at maximum are supported.
    • Connecting a USB HDD device via a USB hub is not supported. Connect it directly to the TV.
    • If your TV has two USB ports, connect the USB HDD device to the port labelled “HDD REC”.
    • Any data stored in the USB HDD device will be erased when it is formatted during the registration process. The USB HDD device cannot be used with a PC once it is registered to the TV. To enable use of the USB HDD device on a PC, format it on the PC. (Note that any data in the USB HDD device will be erased).
    • A maximum of 8 USB HDD devices can be registered.
    • To deregister a USB HDD device, press HOME, select [IMG]file:///E:/Sony%20TV/en/manual/share/res_common/S_NUXs_setting.icon.png[/IMG] → [System Settings] → [Recording Set-up] → [HDD Deregistration], then select the device to deregister.
    • Only this TV can play the data recorded on the USB HDD.

tell us what format the disk recordings are eg .ts .mp4 .mpg etc then you may need to transcode them, check which formats it can play and which disk formt it accepts https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/televisions/wd750-series/specifications
