I understood you could do more if you jail break it, it invalidates warranty but the biggest reason no to is performance.
My Mobile is too slow to be practical since the last IOS update.
I will probably dump Apple or wait for a bargain on eBay.
I would not want an iPhone7, lack of headphone socket is unacceptable and so typical of Apple.
What mobile do you have?
Jailbreaking doesn't enable you to perform any more updates. If you're jailbroken and update then you lose your jailbreak.
I've had iPhones since the 3G and and iPad one and three. I've jailbrokem every one of them and it has caused zero performance issues, quite the opposite in fact.Sigless0 -
What advantages are there to
Jail breaking an iPhone?0 -

One downside is that some banking apps check for a jailbreak being present and will refuse to operate if found, due to security concerns.0 -

Basically I can do what i want with my phone. I have proper bluetooth, I can organise my photos on the phone instead of having to go via itunes. I can place the toggles I must find useful in control centre.I have completely disabled notification centre as I don't like or use it. I can completely stop backgroud apps (despite having background app refresh turned off, many apps still operate in the background, mostly anything facebook or google related). I can have things I find useful in the copy and paste menu. I can completely disable the painfully slow animations.
I can disable adverts system wide, and I mean on things like ITV player and 4OD. I happily watch those free of all adverts and commercial breaks thanks to my jailbroken iPad.
The list is endless. Most people think jailbreaking is simply for pirated apps, that's where the trouble starts, someone is too cheap to pay £1 for an app, pirates it then complains when their phone gets bogged down thanks to all the crap that comes with pirated apps (not all obviously, but a large amount). I've never pirated an app. Most of the time the JB dev's are quick to patch security issues too, so whilst someone on stock iOS is waiting around for apple to release an update (the text and date issues for example), I happily had them patched via jailbreak a few days after they become news.
I realise a lot of that can already be done on android, I have tried android several times and I simply prefer iOS. Especially jailbroken iOS.Sigless0 -
Does the jailbreak allow you to prevent forced updates and roll back to an earlier IOS?
Does it have an equivalent of task manager and allow you to kill off apps that spy on you and geofence in your own home? These apps leave stubs so even if you close the app you have to kill the stub.
I do not share my contacts with Whatapp nor my camera. I have location turned off and I deny mobile data to most apps, I also have background refresh off.
I am curious what other things you can do, for example I would like to use my own cloud service, I think Apple is going to face an anti trust suit with the way it is forcing people to use icloud or denying developers access.
How do you know if the jailbreak tools are trustworthy? Please be nice to all MoneySavers. That’s the forum motto. Remember, the prime aim is to help provide info and resources. If you don’t like someone, their situation, their question or feel they’re intruding on ‘your board’ then please bite the bullet and think of the bigger issue.:)0 -
Yes it stops forced updates. Several tweaks disable over the air updates.
No nothing allows you to roll back to an earlier unsigned version of iOS.
It has everything stock iOS has just more. I have a tweak where you can set which apps are allowed to run in the background. If any.
I don't share contacts either. And I don't have back group app refresh or location turned on.
I don't use iCloud either.
Check Reddit. There's plenty of information. You'd soon find out there if it wasn't safe. Usually after a release people will chime in with any issues. Plus if it has Cydia it has to have the permission of Saurik. People jailbreak for Cydia. That's the whole point. If Saurik has allowed the devs to include Cydia in their release that's good enough for me.Sigless0 -
Sorry, just to chime in:
Technically not 100% true. It is possible to downgrade, you do however require your blobs and a set !!!!!!. Older devices such as the one OP is asking about can be downgraded easily by following a guide of which there are multiple on the jailbreak subreddit.0 -
True. The only reason I said no was because if they're asking the benefits of JB then I highly doubt they have already JB and and haves saved the needed blobs.Sigless0

Is it true that once you have carried a jailbreak the iPad/iPhone is then open to Malaware/viruses ?0
-
Only if you install maleware from dodgy pirated apps. Or dodgy Cydia repos.
If you stick to the App Store and if you are inclined to pirate then stick to reputable places.
I've jailbroken every iDevice I've ever owned and never had a single problem.Sigless0
