Old Style Daily Saturday 18th February

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone

Thought I would start us off as I am up early again due to having a cold. I am all blocked up so I can't use my cpap machine which is very annoying. Half term has been a bit of a washout for us all as we have all caught this wretched cold and are in various stages of recovery. Nevermind, a few more days should see us all better :).

My little experiment with the girls and them cooking meals in the week went really well. They all got very competitive and so I bought a student cookbook for the winner which was DD14. She made sweet and sour chicken from scratch and did an excellent job. They all want to do it again so I said we would at Easter. All in all it was quite a lot of fun and I think they appreciate the effort that goes into planning and cooking their meals a little bit more.

Hubby is in charge of cooking today so I am going to continue to rest apart from drinking loads so I am up and down the stairs to the loo every half an hour. Oh well, it's making me fit :rotfl:. I have lost my sense of smell and taste which is very disconcerting. All food tastes of nothing so I am concentrating on textures. I really hope they reappear soon.

I will be rounding up the girls as the house has slid into a mess whilst we have all been ill. If we take a room each it should all be done in an hour or so. Oh, I forgot to say our boiler has been broken for a week and so we have had no heating or hot water. It's all been a bit of a nightmare really as being poorly, I was desperate for a shower to feel a bit better. At the moment we are having strip washes but the girls are popping round to their big sister's house to use the shower there. Unfortunately I can't manage their shower so it's a kettle full of hot water and a flannel. It's probably a good job I have no sense of smell at the moment :rotfl::rotfl:

Well, that's all my waffle for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
• Morning folks and thanks for the start DUMPLING. Feels very mild here this morning. Been up hours (another sleepless night) and not put any heating on yet.

Yesterday's hospital visit went as well as it could. Tedious journey to get there, backlog of people waiting for ct scans and finally got home at 7.00 pm absolutely shattered and starving. The diet went to pot and I was shovelling down everything in sight. Today is another day and back on the wagon.

After a much needed clean of the bathroom I want to trip down to Dunelm and resume my search for the elusive poppy picture and artificial poppies for the bedroom. Nothing at TKMaxx the other day though I did come out with a nice toilet brush and holder that I hadn't gone in for!

Meals for the day yet to be planned so next job is a freezer rummage. Though at the moment it's all very tidy and organised so don't need to rummage! And my inventory is up to date which makes planning so much easier (till I am looking for something I have forgotten to cross off!)

Have a good day all and (HUGS) for the poorlies, worried and sad who want one. Take care x

Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs for those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now getting light here, drying up underfoot, and forecast is for dry and mild weather, hopefully that's what we'll get.

DH up and gone into work, I'm up, showered, dressed and had brekkie as I'm working too.

Dinner last night was pie, chips, peas and gravy for the menfolk, ice cream for dessert, I had mushroom and cheese omelette with salad. Tonight will be an all day breakfast - just really fancied it.

Yesterday I did get some more of the "to do" list completed - I continued with the washing, and at one point the dirty wash basket was empty - but not for long! I stripped and re-made our bed, part of the bed linen is washed the other in the dirty wash basket, I made a start on the declutter of the latest "hotspot" - so much stuff that is now spread all over the dining room table, I purchased a decent sized toolbox, this is going to be filled with all the tools, batteries, torch etc so when we need something we can actually find it! I'm hoping that when we get back from work at lunchtime, we'll eat then continue with this, I'd like to have it at least tidy by tonight, if not the end of the weekend. I didn't get any cooking/baking done, as the declutter took over, but I'm looking to get some done shortly.

Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:

Sounds like a great half-term holiday in your house dumpling :D

I'm still in a bit of a mess but the dust seems to have calmed down now, it's back to normal levels, lol. The house feels much fresher and my cough isn't as bad, I'm not sure if it's hanging on because of the dust or it's just from my cold. Bit of both, maybe.

I surrounded myself with paperwork yesterday and have caught up with work, I might do some more to get ahead with it. There's only so much I can do til the actual invoices and receipts come in but I want it all in place ready. I've been wandering about feeling useless lately so it's nice to feel like I've achieved something.

Another day to myself today :T I have two loads of washing to do and will run the hoover round. I want to replace the money we've spent so far so I'm going to go through the household budget and re-jig things a bit, then set a target date for savings.

Good morning everyone.

I've no idea what it's like outside, it's very odd being in a house with a full set of curtains and blinds which are closed in the evenings. I've got one set in the living room which don't get closed and one net in the bathroom as it's at the front of the house.

Anyway, the agenda is taking DM shopping at some yet to be determined time this morning and then going home. I've got so much to do there, for the first time in two years I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by it! Makes me remember why I retired. It'll be fine, it's all short term stress and all I need to do is sit down and blooming well do it, get the work out of the way and then I can clear the living room out for the decorator.

My DM is writing her life story, a teenage girl in Germany in the early '40s, and it's fascinating and horrifying in equal measure. Nothing really bad happened to her but it was a life of horrors and constant relocating, deprivations and separation from family. It makes me fully understand the term 'snowflake generation' where every small thing becomes a major crisis like the young woman who went to A&E because she broke a nail.

Right, another half an hour under the duvet browsing and then I'll be moving.

Happy Saturday to all.

Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread Dumpling hope you feel better soon x

Just been out to fill up the bird feeders and it's relatively mild so no heating on, have seen the forecast and it's looking warmish over the weekend, high teens if we see the sun :)
As planned I picked up my new glasses yesterday and have to say I love them, even though my prescription hadn't changed very much I chose a slightly larger frame and seem to be able to see much better, even walking the girls in the dark last night showed an improvement, happy days.
Am relatively up to date with the chores so will just potter around this morning then this afternoon am off to the footie with DB, just the two of us and am really looking forward to it.
Not sure about tea tonight, DOH has been hinting about a Chinese takeaway, would be rude not to :rotfl:
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
• Morning all, after a rather challenging day yesterday I was quite shattered in the evening . I went to bed early and slept well, though woke up a few times. Got up at 5 as I was fully awake.

Last night's dinner was so odd that I can't quite describe it, let alone eat it. I ended up with some bread and cheese, OH was displeased but it really was horrid. I suppose I should be grateful but I wasn't. The previous evening's meal was odd too, and he's cooking again tonight.

I usually do some cleaning up on Fridays but as I was at work, didn't so must do some today. I have started in a small way. A quiet way so as not to wake the slumbering two.

Weather looks a bit gloomy but I haven't yet looked at the forecast, not that it has a lot of meaning but quite fun to look.

I have a piece of work to do today but shouldn't take too long, then that's it until Tuesday.

Dumpling, we were shoeless for two weeks recently, I had a quick bath each day (though that always takes longer than a shower, doesn't it), DS showered at the gym and OH had a bath a few times, he hates baths. I'm usually in and out of the shower in record time as I get in, get wet, get washed, get out. The day the shower was mended, I was in there for ages, enjoying lovely warm water! Hopefully, you will be doing that soon.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
• TA Have you tried The Range, if you have one near to you? They always seem to have poppy pictures and certainly have silk flowers.

I bought a beautiful large poppy picture some while ago which dd relieved me of because she loved it

Candlelightx
• Thanks for the suggestion CANDLELIGHT but we are a good distance from the nearest Range unfortunately. I have found a few I liked on Amazon but, for one thing, the postage is silly money and, another, I am worried they won't look as nice when they actually arrive!
