Asda trying to give voucher instead of refund

I purchased 2 items in Asda about 3 weeks ago. One of them failed so I took it back to the store for a refund with my receipt. Later I found that the second item had failed and emailed customer service. As I no longer have the receipt because the assistant in the store kept it when she refunded the amount for the first item, I only have my bank statement as proff. Asda siad that is fine along with a photo of the defective item. They are offering me a gift card for that amount but I have stated that it is a business purchase and as it is not fit for purpose I am entitled to a refund. They can check the receipt from the date I gave them when it was taken in the store. They have again ignored my request for a refund and offered me a gift card for slightly more as a goodwill gesture. I have again reminded them that I am entitled to a refund but I get no response.

Am I within my rights to have a refund ?

Yes you are, receipts are not the only legally acceptable proof of purchase.

Why have you not just taken the second one back to the store with your bank statement?

How can you prove with your bank statement that the transaction you are showing relates to the faulty item and not other purchases?

Because I wanted to make sure via email before I go in. They have the receipt and I know the date they took it off me so there is the proof.

This is why you should always keep the original receipt after a refund if there's multiple purchases on it. They should cross the item off on the receipt to show that it's been refunded and hand it back to you.

I would push to get the refund, or would a replacement be of any good for you?

I yhink you have less consumer rights if its a business purchase. I dont see the problem to be honest. If its Asda, cant you just buy groceries etc to the value.
You have no specficic proof of prchase. A bank statement will just confirm you bought things, plural. You should have taken your receipt back.

You know the date, what does that prove
Thatts not proof of your purchse. The receipt will probably have gone in the bin.
You should have asked for it back.

You should have got the receipt back - with the relevant item marked as refunded. You're going to have a head-against-brick-wall moment proving you bought the other one.

What's wrong with a voucher from a supermarket - surely that's almost the same as cash in reality? You gotsta eat.

But it was for a business item so will have to be accountable. The refund would cancel out the purchase in my books. And no, I wouldn't have a second one as they have just stopped selling it and even if they were It would break again as the plastic was weak.
