Dishwasher problem

posting on behalf of my son.

He bought a Beko dishwasher 2 months ago and installed it temporarily as he is having a house extension and has no sink downstairs. The dishwasher stopped draining and an Engineer who came out said the relay in the control panel and the drainage pump need replacing. It took a week for the engineer to come out and he has now been told it will be another 3 weeks to repair it. Spoke to Currys who said it was not their problem.

My son has 3 young children and has to wash everything in the bathroom sink upstairs which is a nightmare.

I don't think that a 3 week wait for a repair is acceptable but would welcome other views and potential action.

Try reading the section on this link entitled "Know Who is Responsible" It should give you the ammunition your son needs to chase Currys.

Thanks for the link. I appreciate the responsibility is with Currys but they were always going to call Beko out. I guess the real question is, is a 3 week wait for a repair reasonable and acceptable?

Has he spoken to Currys again to let them know what the wait time is? Is it a case of it will take three weeks or that it will be a maximum of three weeks and maybe the part will turn up in a few days? A dishwasher is really a luxury item even in the UK there are probably just as many homes without one as with one and I know of quite a few people who have them but don't use them. I would say normally three weeks is not too bad.

Although I get in his circumstances it is quite awkward with his only alternative being a bathroom sink which if it's anything like mine is too small for the job. Can he not use a bath or shower instead to make it a bit easier for himself.

I'd say 3 weeks for a repair is perfectly acceptable. It's only a dishwasher after all and his personal circumstances regarding having to use the bathroom sink because of building work is not really their problem.

Apparently it's the engineer that is the issue not the parts and Currys are well aware of that. THat's when they said it's nothing to do with them.

He can use the bath but it's not much fun!

Just make sure he doesn't sit on a fork!

I'm not saying it's "their problem". Just saying 3 weeks is not particularly good customer service. How would you feel if it was your washing machine or oven? Would that make any difference or is it just because it's "only a dishwasher"?

Yes, but you are using your son's particularly circumstance as a way to emphasise that's it's particularly inconvenient. I'm just saying that it's not really relevant. Washing machines and ovens are completely different to a dishwasher, not being able to cook or wash clothes is not the same as the slight inconvenience of having to manually wash your dishes.

First world problems and all that.

One solution is to go back to Currys today, buy a new one, take it home and put the old one in the box and take it back tomorrow for a refund.....
