Scoot Airlines 6 hour delay

I flew from Singapore to Sydney on Saturday 28 January 2017.

My flight was from Changi Airport to Sydney Airport.

I flew on Scoot, which is a low cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines.

My flight was due to depart at 01:45. Before i was due to take a taxi to the airport, i just thought i'd check the Changi Airport departures page to see the flight status. It said my flight was due to take off at 07:45, so 6 hours later.

I had not been notified by the airline of this!! and to this day i never received a call, email or SMS notifying me of the delay.

As i was sharing a taxi to the airport I decided to go to Changi and the Scoot counter. all they gave me was a measly 10SD voucher to spend on food and drink. accommodation was out the question. they just told me to either watch a movie at the airport or sleep in one of the lounges.

there were no available seats so i slept on the floor.

They gave no explanation for this delay. The flight did depart at 07:45 as promised. i reached Sydney 6 hours later than planned and only had a day to cram in all sightseeing as opposed to a day and a half before my next flight out.

do you guys think i would have any joy in getting any recompense?!

You would need to look into Singapore law on this question and take action there.

EU law doesn't apply, Scoots conditions of carriage, 9.3 and 9.4, say they take no responsibility for delays and suggest a comprehensive policy of insurance. Indeed if they cancel a flight or make a change of more than 8 hours you can ask for a refund and they will deduct a reasonable fee!!

have your checked what your travel insurance may pay?
  • Hadn't you been logging into your booking to check for changes, rather than leaving it until just before you left for the airport? Not all airlines send change notifications and when they do sometimes emails go astray. It's your responsibility to know when your flight departs, and most airline conditions of carriage state that it's your responsibility to ensure that your flight times/dates haven't changed. Some tell you to reconfirm your flights.
