Hello all,
I am looking for cheapest pay as you go as secondary phone. I will be mainly using it for receiving calls and occasionally making call.
most of the pay as you go sim advertise themselves as monthly bolt on without contract.
I am looking to top up £5 initially and make odd call in few months .
the provider don't put condition on their website except O2 that you have to topup minimum of £10 in every 6 months. I don't want that I want if possible no commitment and even if I have to commit it should be as low as p[ossible
I was wondering if you guys know policy of different providers?
Thanks
S

Savingman - There are various routes for you to go but first decide which network will suit you best as regards coverage, then look at costs and suppliers -
Three is cheapest but not the best network coverage and requires a 3G phone (smartphone)
Tesco Lite and Tesco regular use the O2 network
Asda Mobile uses the EE network
All are true PAYG services and only require you to send a text or make a call once in every six months - the credit does not expire until you've used it up.
Three and Tesco require a £10 top up while Asda requires a £5 top up when credit is used up.
There are several other providers but I have chosen those three as they are well known names. Tesco and Asda also supply cheap 2G phones which will fill your requirement for a low cost option.0 -
Been a while since the last post on this topic so make of my thoughts what you will.
I do have THREE PAYG (3p - 2p - 1p ). On the whole it's fine. You def. don't have to top up within a particular period and you can top up with a fiver and the website isn't bad. Customer service on the phone is a bit variable ... sometimes you're put through to the UK, sometimes not. But generally the staff aren't bad. Reception/coverage may well not be as good as, say, EE but that'll depend on where you are and where you go ... it's usually good enough for me.
We also have an ASDA PAYG phone. Of course the coverage is likely to be better (EE) but it's a bit dearer (8P per min & 4p texts) and customer service is superb ... always a UK operator and usually answer quickly.
And finally the O2 Classic PAYG (at 3p, 2p and 1p). Haven't used it but did ring their customer service people the other day. Took a while to get through but the fella spoke good English (in a South African accent ... but that's OK). He def. said you DO NOT have to top up a tenner every 6 months - just make the required chargeable call or text within the stated period ... in fact he said better to make a call or text every couple of months to be on the safe side - but he might just be trying to be helpful and make sure you're not penalised in any way.
Pick the bones out of that and do what suits best.0 -
I made mention of the 02 Classic PAYG offering in a previous post ... at the time I wasn't with them.
I am now and can say it's been fine. Same 3p 2p 1p rates as Three but on the 02 network (obviously enough).
The staff in the 02 shop were generally very good (although I admit it's a matter of luck in any shop .... some will be more interested than others).
The 02 helpline staff have been excellent - they're not in the UK but the communication between us is far better than Three.
All in all - very pleased.0
