You won't get a 5S new, unless it's been sitting on a shelf for nearly a year, the SE replaced the 5S in April/May 2016.0

Here's a link to Giffgaff for the iphone 5s. Cost is £199 + £10 for the basic goody bag (default is £15 but can be changed). Available in grey or silver.

Giffgaff are one of the iphone few sellers whose phones are truly unlocked and don't lock to the network of the first sim installed.0 -
If you would take care of your mobile phone by yourself (without manufacturer's support) You would consider to get a decent top end quality second hand mobile phone, like OnePlus One (released late 2014)
I personally am using a second hand OnePlus One, you can get it at 100-150 pound via eBay, Gumtree etc. It is far better quality than the brand new 150-250 pound 2 year disposable mobile phones.
This is an amazing phone and I intend to use this phone for 3 - 5 years. OnePlus One is supported by Android Developer community very much, that means, you are able to install the latest Android OS (custom rom) for next 3- 5 years. You need to learn some basics, but you can extend your mobile phone life much longer in a very cost effective way.
If you are interested in this option, I am more than happy to assist you.
Please note: OnePlus One 4G works only EE network here in the UK, I am using OnePlus One with O2 network, but I really don't need 4G.0 -

Aren't most apps compatible with older versions of Android OS anyway? For example, it was only about a month ago, it was said that SnapChat is no longer compatible with older Android OS devices.0 -
I wouldn't buy a phone off Gumtree, Amazon or Argos would better, even ebay would be better than gumtree.0

Yes, this is what I am talking about. Even you would get the brand new mobile, Android OEM can only officially support up to 2 years. (Software planned obsolescence)
But you can continue to use the latest Android OS (custom Rom) supported by developer's community after OEM supports ends.
Background:
Unlike iOS, Windows, Android OS has been developed as a part of Android Open Source Project.

Google has an obligation to supply the source code. Then, what happens? Developers community have started to develop their custom Android for their existing devices to extend their hardware life much longer.
As a community development, you will find distinctive features such as lightweight, full customisation, no bloatware (i.e. longer battery life), block complete advertisement, privacy protection etc.
For instance, Lineage OS is one of the most poplar community Android OS

Along with Google Nexus, OnePlus One became one of the most supported devices by developer's community. I won't be surprised if OnePlus One will be supported for another 3-5 years.
If you intend to take care of your mobile phone. (I have got a 9H screen protection and a decent protective case) Then this would be a great cost effective and environmentally friendly solution.
Once you have mastered to install the custom Android OS by yourself, you will be able to get out of this silly wasteful 2 year disposal system.
I am using OnePlus One with Android 6.0 with 12.2016 Security patch, I would install Android 7.1 later.
If interest, check out developer's site.

This kind of stuff is regarded as only Geeky stuff, but this is very cost saving and environmentally friendly stuff as well.0
