Internet for high usage household?

Hi,
We are currently paying £28.99 for bt infinity 1 & get maximum speeds of 52mb, this was a 12 month offer & the price is due to rise to £44.99 for the next 6 months :(
Bt emailed me last week explaining that prices will be going up by £2.50 per month, it explained that I can cancel for free, there was also an offer attached. The offer is 18 months of bt infinity 2 with a guaranteed minimum speed of 66mb, maximum 80mb, for £33.49.

We are a high usage household & during the evenings/weekends when everyone is home we struggle to all get a connection, usually 1 or 2 of us get no signal or buffering. There's myself & OH streaming tv, then 3 teenagers (plus girlfriends) on there consoles, phones, tablets, etc. Although the person that struggles most is also furthest away from the router, so could be a router issue?

My question is would infinity 2 speeds improve the buffering/no internet issues? or should I ask for an offer on infinity 1 & buy a new router??

Thanks

Your post suggest its your connections over WiFi at fault .
Increasing to 66 meg is not going to make your WiFi stronger .
Even buying a new router may not solve your problem if your mobiles are set up wrongly .likewise WiFi channels on the router .

BT Home Hub 6 has a slightly better WiFi than HH 5 . Is this part of your offer ??
  • We have a bt smart hub, is this the 6?

Just spoke to bt, infinity 1 will be more expensive, they couldn't beat the offer I've been given for infinity 2?
  • I'm not very techie at all but I did read up awhile ago about 5 vs 2.4 ghz connections, my laptop & the xbox's run on 5 ghz I believe all of the other gadgets run on the 2.4ghz.
Should I switch more over to the 5ghz?

5ghz is only good for devices closest to the router which means it can run at higher speeds. 2.4ghz is better in terms of range.
Devices will also need to support 5ghz band to utilise it.
Most supported devices should automatically switch between 2.4ghz and 5ghz depending which gives the best signal.
You should consider adding a wireless access point to increase the wireless range. It would be best to hardwire with ethernet between the router and a wireless access point. You would place the wireless access point closer to the dead spots in your property.
