To make it less obvious, they release stories to the media/press every year so so, about rising insurance premiums and all the reasons for it, so that when you look at your premium your more likely to just accept it.

Except between 2012 and 2014, when average premiums actually fell.

I play their own game with them.

I ring and say I got cheaper quote elsewhere. They say they'd match it. Then I say I'd charge an admin cost to compensate my effort to find a cheaper quote. So, unless they lowers their offer even more, I move to new pastures

Always happens at renewal, shop around and it will be cheaper, also cashback.

Previous insurance company couldn't match new one, which I knocked off the quote by £50 to include the cash back.

Went with new one, 3 months £50 cash back.

Parents had SAGA for one year the following year the price increased substantially. But SAGA prevent customers from getting online quotes, their system pings up to say check your renewal.

Adding a letter to their number so 14a instead of 14 and a slight typo to the name and it quoted a LOT less. But SAGA would not budge on the price.

Never had a renewal quote that wasn't significantly higher than what I was paying (until this year), and I haven't had a claim for 17 years, other than 1 no fault in 2012. Usually I've been able to get the renewal quote down to what I was paying, but if not I moved on. Tesco was the weirdest - went from paying £250 for the year to renewal quote of £450 and they wouldn't consider dropping it. I have just renewed with Aviva at the end of year 1 with them, as they quoted a slight increase of about £2 a month, and I couldn't find an alternative worth changing to.
