O/S Daily Wednesday 15 February 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that wanted/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, drying up underfoot, temperature is supposed to be getting warmer, we'll see.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was lamb casserole, mash, cauli, peas, baby corn and LO yorkshires - all eaten and enjoyed. Tonight we'll be having egg, bacon, sausages, mushrooms and beans.

Work yesterday wasn't as busy but had times where we were very busy, and for the last part of the afternoon we didn't have enough staff so we were hard pushed to then cope with the customers that did come in, although we did get sorted in the end. Working all day today - still doing the extra hours but am off Thurs and Fri, working Sat morning, then using up the last of my hols, so off Mon and Tues back for the day next Weds and working Sat, then on the Mon back to whatever is normal!

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Not as cold this morning but damp underfoot. I think we are due to have rain for the next few days - hope it remembers to stop again!

I came home after work and walked to a friends to take her some Hong Kong currency I had (she's going to see her DS), 2 miles there, a slight refreshment (wind) whilst there and walked home, it was a lovely cold evening and I thoroughly enjoyed it and slept like a log last night.

No news on the little boy, just hope he's safe.

We have been asked to wear purple for the funeral on Friday, it's a colour I never wear as it makes my face look green! Still, I'll go after work to see if I can get something.

Hope you're resting elona and get well soon. Sugar free jelly is my friend for something sweet.
    Thinking of you carlislelass.

Have a good Wednesday, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. My early morning wakening seems to have extended to around 5.00 a.m. just now. Not good but later than it was. Still some room for improvement but need less worries for that to happen.

As promised by the kind weatherman, it does feel a bit milder this morning, reaching the dizzy heights of 9 deg by mid-day! I have a hair appointment at 12.30, for a much needed trim, so may not need to be quite as muffled up when I leave for the 12.00 bus.

I have got up with my determined head on! I WILL lose the 6 lbs gained over the winter months, and maybe a couple more lbs besides! I have fished out Dr Mosley's BS diet book for ideas as I am aiming for a low-carb Mediteranean style diet. It means cutting out all the things I love but hey-ho! Frozen berries are defrosting to have with a bowl of Greek yohurt for breakfast so at least I am making a good start!! Wish me luck and, more important, willpower!! I am a big comfort eater and that must stop.

Had a natter on the phone last night with DB. He'd had the day out on his beloved motor bike with a friend doing a circuit of the Dales, with lunch at Kilnsey trout farm and pot of tea stops here and there! It sounded a perfect day. We really are on the doorstep of some lovely places for a day out.

Have a good day all if you can and (HUGS) for the poorlies, worried and sad who want one. Take care whatever you are up to xx

    Morning all,

Camelot was it windy on the way home or did you have wind ? :rotfl:

Does not seen quite as cold here today we are meant to be having a warm spell, only working two days this week as I have an appointment on Friday so a nice short week.

Not going to mums for dinner tonight she is going to her sisters for a break tomorrow so we aid we would leave it, it will be nice for her as it gives her some company.

Ive got some chicken out and I shall do some satay chicken with egg fried rice for dinner.

I had a £10 gift voucher for Mr T so last night I ordered a new blender as the jug on mine has cracked, I have also ordered some fruits and natural yogurt so we can start making smoothies, the blender is being delivered to my local Mr T so not far to go to collect it.

OH and I have been talking about getting an actifry but I am not sure how much we would use it, I know some of you have got one, how orten do you use it and would you recommend ? I fear it would be one of those things use a few times then shoved to the back of a cupboard !

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Morning all.

5am wake up for me :(. I'm feeling tired and exhausted with a headache as well. So frustrating compared to yesterday.
I had actually slept well on Monday night and oh what a difference it made to my day yesterday.

Because I didn't feel exhausted work wasn't a chore. I had the energy to go for a run after work then cleaned my windows. I ate healthily and thought yes I should sleep well tonight....Wrong, wrong, wrong...I've had a few hours and feel carp again today.

TA We sound very similar, not sleeping, worrying and comfort eating...that's the reason I've piled on the pounds over the last few months. And being so tired has left me with no energy to exercise.

I was feeling quite positive yesterday after my achievements and not feeling carp...I now feel like I'm back to square one :(

    Apologies for the moan :o

So today will be about getting through work and very little else besides.

Take care and have a good day everyone :)

    Morning all,

Men up and out the door an hour ago. Hounds been out again. Damn these ageing bladders of theirs (and mine).

Need to do a few bits and pieces in the house today before my Grandson comes later on. I'm having him tomorrow too because he's still got spots. I'm pretty sure it's chickenpox as they have the tell-tale blisters but there's only a few and they haven't got any worse. From what I remember from my own kids, they have spots in varying degrees. His Mummy only had a few too though his uncle was plastered. So, for now, we are taking things one day at a time.

Carlislelass. Thinking of you today. I hope your results come back clear.

Camelot I love Purple but can only wear certain shades or I look ill too. How about going for a neutral colour with purple assessories?

TA wish you luck with the weight loss. Mines come to a standstill. :(

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Morning :hello:

Hester When I saw your post the other day, I thought you'd booked a holiday on a boat – didn't realise you'd bought one to live on! Sounds fab :D

The shopping came yesterday, I now have a large supply of chocolate to keep me sane.

I've decided on a fire surround. I had an image in my head, I've found a couple of ready made ones but they're the wrong size – only by a bit but I want it this exact size. Not that I'm fussy or anything. So master tru is going to make one for me, like THIS but smaller – just the wooden part, the rest hasn't been decided on yet. Rang the local timber yard and they usually have oak beams but are out of stock at the moment, they're waiting for delivery. So I'm enjoying a few days of peace before work starts again.

My cold is still hanging on, it's nowhere near as bad as it was but the cough is so annoying. I haven't caught up on sleep yet and my brain isn't functioning properly, every time I do something I have to really concentrate or I wander off to do something else :D

More dust has settled so I'll clean that up this morning then go for a walk for some fresh air. Scampi has improved so we're managing half an hour with a lead on. Lead off, he's fine for hours! I think I'm going to have to accept that we'll never have a normal, relaxing walk when he has a lead attached to him  Lunch with miss tru today, we've also started watching Emerald City and we're enjoying it, so I'm looking forward to that later.

    Morning everyone.

The big moon is still hanging in the sky, it's lovely. The howling wind has stopped and it's still dry, fingers crossed.

I've got a two hour teaching session this morning then there's a couple of bits I have to shop for.

Yesterday was very productive and I felt good. The approach of spring is always a great feeling for me, I start to uncurl from winter hibernation.

The cable labels arrived yesterday so I'll be doing as many as I can today. I'll need some brawn to help move the TV and stand (it's heavy glass) to get to them so attaching them will have to wait. It's a jungle behind the set.

Right, I must face the truculent seven so it's time for a shower.

I hope everyone has a happy Wednesday.
  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread NMLC, love the phrase Truculent Seven Gers.

Hugs to Elona and all those in need.

The blog problem is very strange, some people can see it, others can't, maybe if you google Hard Up Hester, or snitykitty, you will find it, I am not allowed to post the link in here I'm afraid.

I think our route over Easter will be Grand Union canal, Oxford Canal, Kennet and Avon, I will take lots of pics and post them on FB & my blog.

We have been hit with a crisis of great magnitude here, we are out of bacon, shock horror and it's a holiday, so I need to scurry off to the butchers, they open at 6, and get some bacon for my L&M's breakfast!

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • REDRUBY I am another considering an Actifry but, like you, don't want to buy one if I am not going to use it! I don't have enough kitchen space for un-necessary equipment. All I can add is that DD has one and uses hers a lot and says she wouldn't be without it. Perhaps I should pop down and witness it in use to give me an idea. Watch this space....!

  • Morning everyone,

Lovely and fresh morning in Glasgow.

Yesterday evening I came home from work, made dinner and left overs for lunch today; kale, mozzarella and egg bake. I then made a low-carb coconut cake, but I'm not a fan of it which is so frustrating. Just feel I've wasted all the ingredients!

I've got footie tonight which I'm looking forward to. Not sure what else to get up to but that takes up most of my evening.

TA - being so close to lovely cafes and restaurants always makes healthy eating or diets much more difficult. Good luck!
karcher - hope you have a good day today
Hester - that is a tradegy. Life without bacon just isn't living.
