I do have a back up of everything on my mac so hopefully it won't be a problem to do a re install to a previous date before I started all this music downloading.

Its beyond my capabilities but errant son will hopefully sort me out when he comes home next.

Oh dear, I'm not sure what you've done but it isn't as bad as it looks, I was going to say sounds but you don't have any, sorry

You may have inadvertently created a new iTunes library and now have two. You could select every song and tell it to find the files but if you have a backup just restore the Music folder to the day before you made the changes. The Music folder is the default location for the iTunes files.

Open iTunes and then from the menu bar at the top Itunes > Preferences. Click on advanced and tell us what it says in the iTunes Media Folder location. Close preferences and select a track that won't play then right click and select Get Info that will tell you where it thinks the file should be. Both should be the same.

Let us know what they are.

I will try tomorrow to do a re install back to the last back up.
