Switching ISP concerns

Hi.
Our household has decided to switch ISPs to something more reliable and affordable. I'd heard about Origin Broadband which had some good reviews at the time. We decided to switch to them and ordered it on the 3rd (03-02-17).
We paid upfront for the year (cheaper) and received the receipt via email. We had no further contact until the current ISP sent a letter confirming that the landlne/internet would be switched and that the internet would be cancelled on the 20th.
Since then, a number of complaints regarding Origin have appeared- issues such as people not receiving service or being charged extra.
I contacted Origin yesterday regarding why I hadn't received any contact or received the router yet and their reply was essentially:
- A delay happened with the previous supplier switching over the number
- They will email when a connection date has been confirmed
- The router will arrive shortly before/ on the day of activation. - Update. Remembered checking the FAQ beforehand and it mentions in the FAQ that routers are usually dispatched a day before so it would seem this is correct.
This has raised a few concerns:
- Is it normal for an ISP to not send any correspondence when switching over to them? Do the smaller ISPs occasionally have issues like this with a number of complaints at the same time? I believe they extended their service nationwide some months ago, though I was still in their area before then.
- Is it still a reasonable time frame for the gaining ISP to sort out the connection and switch over in time if I haven't received a connection date yet? As of writing there are 6 days to my cancellation date.
-I'm aware that I should have 14 days from the date of ordering to cancel the switchover and go back to the original ISP.
The order date was 03-02-17. Would this mean I'll still be able to cancel on the day of 17-02-17 or should I not leave it that late? -Update. Have found out from previous ISP that it should still be possible to cancel on the 17th.
Thanks. This isn't the first time our house has changed ISP but it's the first time i've dealt with it personally.

Update: Phoned up the provider yesterday regarding the issue. Was told that they would contact the manager to try to find out what was happening. Was told again that it was something to do with the phone line. Said they would phone back later in the day.
No reply, chased this up today. Now told simply that they do not have a connection date yet. Less than 4 days to the cancellation of previous ISP- Think i'm starting to make my mind up.0 -
HI, I changed ISP provider to Origin at the beginning of the month. After the initial "I'll go with them" moment, I began reading a number of complaints from people about the quality of their service.
Having being with different providers over the years, I've accepted that every service provider will have good & bad reviews. Therefore I decided to give them a go.
After making the initial payment, I heard very little then I received a text and e-mail stating a change over date.
I received my router in the post 3 days before change over.
The change over happened without fault over night and so far, I'm pleased with the (faster) service.
My experience has been that Origin have been minimal on the contact front, but so far the service has been great.
I hope this will be the same for you, as I was a bit doubtful, once I had paid and heard very little. My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08
