OVO Debt
Options
I had a letter last week from ovo energy saying my energy was going to be cut off, we pay with a prepayment meter online using the ovo app. We've since found out that they haven't been charging for electricity for over a year. I've just visited uswitch to go to a better supplier but I'm not sure if this is the correct thing to do. Also am I liable to pay for this since it wasn't my fault? They've also been charging 0.21p to much per day standing charge. They've since put the standing charge down to the proper amount but have not deducted it from the bill. Help!!:money:

what do you mean by "they haven t been charging for electricity for a year " ? and its not your fault ? You know yourself how much you are paying..its a prepay meter .You do not want to be even considering switching supplier whilst you have a meter which is either faulty or illegally bypassed. It will be automatically blocked and you will draw more suspicion on yourself .Even if you did not do the bypassing, or took over a faulty meter, you are obliged to report any faults on the meter as soon as possible not sit back enjoying what you think is "free energy " for a year. In every ones terms and conditions of supply there is the condition that any faults are to be reported..pronto..not after a year. Yes you are liable to pay for all energy you have used. If the supplier cannot establish a usage then an estimation based on future usage will be added to the meter ( once it is changed ) as a debt. No free lunches I m afraid
As a meter reader I find this scenario often enough where someone moves in as a new tenant and finds to their joy that the meter seems to be delivering free energy. Energy theft is so rife nowadays that the thieves do not even bother taking out the bypass on the meter when they leave. Some of these meters are deadly having live connectors centimeters away from the where the key has to be inserted..This is a system account and does not represent a real person. FYI it's not "illegally bypassed" my wife has the ovo app on her phone it says when the smart meter is running low and she tops it up, she assumes the company is charging us properly and doesn't think about what she has paid. So before you go throwing accusations please get your facts right. We had a similar problem two years ago with the gas meter not communicating which we noticed straight away because we where new to the system and reported it. I don't even know why I'm bothering explaining my self to you I have nothing to hide and have not broken any laws. I merely came here asking for advice. Do you seriously think I would ask for advice if I knowingly committed fraud????0

P.S an apology for accusing me of theft and illegally tampering with my meter wouldn't go a miss either.0

First time posting here and this is how I'm treated, I am furious right now, the problem with the meter not charging correctly has since been fixed at ovo' end as it was an admin error not illegally tampered as "House Martin" put it. Reported.0

When you say it hasn't been charging, what exactly do you mean?
Have they been taking money from you when you use the app?3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Octopus Flux0 -
I am furious with you also. i never said You were illegally tampering with the meter, why did you say that ? i also said if it was "either faulty " or "illegally bypassed". A new occupier would not know if the meter was bypassed. Absolutely nowhere did i personally accuse you off illegally bypassing a meter. You never said it was a smart prepayment meter.Ovo still have many of the old prepays around which are always getting bypassed. New occupiers move into these meters all the time in my job. I also said how deadly they were. The new smart prepayment meters are a different proposition and cannot be easily tampered with like the old ones. when you come out with such an odd statement that the meter has nt been charging you , what else can it be than either faulty or internally bypassed. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. "Even if you did not do the bypassing" assumes I could have.0

Since having that letter I've logged on to my ovo page to check it and it's been charging too much standing charge but no electricity what so ever, the payments for gas are on there but none for electric. They simply haven't been charging us for the electric.0

Also "Martin money" since when could you connect an app to pay for a prepayment with a meter that isn't a smart meter? I assumed the paragraph that states we pay with the ovo app indicates it would be a smart meter.0
