Delivery charge

I paid over £100 to ave a new car delivered. They failed to delivery it when stated leaving me without a car as I had transferred my insurance to the new car. They did not call to advise of no delivery. 24 hours late they turned up. Have I any rights to get money back

    Simple answer = yes
Complex answer = maybe based on T&C's signed at the time of sale.
Annoying answer = no (did you get the right date of delivery, in writing and other "get out clauses")

When my new car was delayed by 24 hours, I negotiated a tank of fuel.

(slightly easier, because I was collecting it in person so I took the salesman out with his fuel card!)

Recommend you check it closely for any new damage or repairs as this is often a reason for late delivery I.e. Delivery driver bumps it on the way over and takes it back to depot for repair. Of course this is just one possibility.
  • Had an email earlier on the day of delivery confirming it for that day !

How much do you want? What was your hardship in not having a car for the day?
  • They still delivered the car so the cost of delivery has still been incurred by them. If you want to claim for 1 day's loss of use, go for it. You'll probably get one day's hire of an equivalent vehicle which depending on the car will be £25-75? What are you going to do if they refuse? Take them to Court?

Your current car was in part exchange? So you were not without a car. You could have called the insurance up and said you made a mistake.

We have all done similar in the past but most of us have learnt the hard way that you don't effect any changes until the new car/sofa/bed etc is in place. Otherwise you end up in a towering rage which just isn't good for your blood pressure.

Have a go at them, keep a smile on your face and you might get something lose the plot and it will be game over.
  • No my car was not in part exchange.
  • Not having a car for a day meant I could not pick up someone from hospital who then had to get a taxi home. I had to borrow a car so that I could get to work the next day. So it did cause alot of hassle !
