sharpes are known as the double glazing salesmen of the fitted furniture world.
copied this from the web. ive heard similar stories.

re Sharpes Bedrooms. more like sharks bedrooms......

I did not go through with this company quote and a lot to do with it was the attitude of the company, in stark contrast to the only other review on this website which I would like to suggest is a fake. I was quoted £9000 for one wardrobe, with 'special offer' this week only of £3000. I was told if I did not sign and agree to it, the offer would be gone the next week. That was blatantly untrue as it transpired. I was told I was unable to have jewellery drawers or lingerie drawers. This was laziness by the rep. who visited me at home as the draft drawings he left me specifically had tick boxes if the client wanted them. I then went to the nearest store in Kingston to see the doors I wanted and was told that there was none to view. I was told the reason for this was that they were brand new, also untrue as I found a magzine dated 2006 that featured them. Use them and get ripped off. I got a builder in instead and bought doors online. What was going to be £7000 for two wardrobes if I had gone to Sharps, I got for £3000 the lot.
Sharps has a big name but there service is very poor, one incident I remember is that, few month before, I book and appointment with sharps, but there were no reply form their side. Then after few days I called them from mine side, then they starting giving silly reason for not turning up.
  • I had some wardrobes fitted a few months ago and all seemed well until a crack appeared in one of the frosted glass panels on one of the doors. The way the sliding doors were set up meant that two out of the three could collide with each other and this seems to have cause the crack. It was only after this happened that I realised that there was nothing to 'cushion' the two doors when they collide. When I rang and spoke to Sharps, they told me that the wardrobes had been fitted as per 'the contract' and now I have to pay £1000 for a new door as the glass panel can't be repaired - you have to buy a new door. This is after paying £3500 for the original wardrobes. A warning to you, be very careful about the doors you choose and read 'the contract'. Would never recommend these guys again.

We had a terrible experience with Hammonds Furniture would NOT recommend to anyone ever.
The problem is still ongoing with now court hearing scheduled.
The wardrobe in the range of £6000 left the company damaged, the blade to cut the side of the veneer was not sharp enough to cut nicely its just ripped and tore the edges of it. They fitter wouldn't be bothered and fitted together anyway. The handles'-were they were glued, had marks on them all over from the glue, the interior decoration of the room was ruined by the fitters, the wardrobe had big gaps in between the doors, scratches on the doors, glue everywhere etc....
Made a complaint, customer service was appealing. After a inspector visit from the company - who was shock by the quality and the fitting himself - they refitted everything with more damage to the room. Need the carpet refit now and the whole room need to be redecorating.
The bedside cabinets are the same, they forgot about them, so more complaint been done. Still no end of it yet. Hammonds demanding the last bit of payment (about £500) which we are holding back till the work is done to our satisfaction, they threatened us by debt collectors already while the case is ongoing and already schedules a court hearing for the outstanding amount; BUT THE WORK STILL HAVE NOT COMPLETED YET to a standard we would expect for the amount we have paid already! They operate illegally by the law as the complaint is still ongoing. Failed to respond many of letters, emails etc, although they offered 2X£150 discount as "courtesy" which made us laugh as they supposed to be changing the 2 bedside cabinets which each cost about £250-£300 and there are all the damages they caused to the room.... the original fitting was back in April and our case is still ongoing with them

End of story the Hammonds furniture is failed us from the first minute in every step there is in they services... Quality and service are appalling both....... We can honestly say from the experience, they are just simple COWBOYS!

The only things we received from Hammonds Furinture in good quality was the stress their caused us.... :(
  • WHAT DISGUSTING SERVICE  Told me it would take a day to complete instead it took two and the fitter had to stay till nearly 10 pm to complete it. Upon delivery they scratched all the paint off my banisters yet whilst I have send several letters, photos and decorators quotations to them they have still refused to put it right  The surveyor totally mucked up the measurements and had to have more wood and new doors made. Carpet fitters had to be delayed due to !!!! ups. Due to THEIR mistakes we ended up sleeping on the living room floor for a total of 10 (yes ten) days all this just a few months after having knee surgery :(. No communication has been received since and then I get a letter saying they apologies for the inconvenience and they want the last payment of £260 but still not intending to pay for damage. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID
  • I so wish I had seen these posts regarding Sharps. Unfortunately I didn't and am now severely regretting handing over my hwrd earned money. I have had problem after problem. They can't even send out replacements without them turning up damaged. Awful!
  • we have been very impressed with Spacemaker. They have done 2 bedrooms and a study. Friends have used Hammonds and been happy. IMHO its pot luck weather the fitters are in the mood to do an OK job or an excellent one.

  • Thank you guys for all your comments, really helped me decide which company to choose for designing and building my wardrobe, I had a quote from Hammonds and wasn't impress by their sales tactics as well with Sharps, normally been so big company's that you see their adverts everywhere you should feel more confident choosing them, but that's not the case here, I have decided to go with Clive Anderson furniture, been a recommendation, the company is small family run, quick response to all my questions and come up with the best design for my bedroom, I must say for me was the best choice, the guys done a brilliant job from start to finish, a true bespoke furniture company.
  • I used Hammonds around in my old home. I lived about 2 mins from the head office of Hammonds. Total cost was just under £2000 - but that was 12 years ago. Was very happy with the quality, finish of the wardrobes and installation itself.
  • We recently asked Sharpes to quote for my wardrobes for our first childs nursery. We knew exactly what we wanted and had a 50% off voucher with a further 20% off Voucher plus a one off £150.00 discount voucher. So we then asked for a quote from to build a wardrobe with just two hanging rails plus 3 drawers and a shoe rack. The salesperson drew a rough sketch and told us that this with just four doors would cost us £2500.00 after all discounts were applied. We then asked for a breakdown of costs and to show the discounts applied against these costs, this is where the hard sell kicked in!! Ten minutes later we were still unable to get the true breakdown of the cost, we just wanted to see where my so called 50% and 20% vouchers had been applied. We were told that no-one else even a good carpenter could build me something like this and that if i didn't order within a few days the offer was gone. So i asked for time to consider it and my wife asked for a copy of the quote to which the salesperson refused and said "sorry this is my copy". The salesperson left their contact details and left eventually.

We then called Hammonds and booked them in for a price. We had no vouchers or offer codes. The salesman arrived took all the measurements and presented us with a 3d computer drawing which was spot on to start. So we asked him to work out the price and was astonished to find without any special vouchers we had a starting price of £1500.00 BIG SAVING. He never once pushed us into an answer and left a quote with payment breakdowns and options and said if you would like to order then give us a call (very polite).

We have just had the wardrobes fitted by Hammonds and it was a top job, very pleased and the fitter arrived on time and cleared all mess away and i could not fault any part of their sales team or fitting service.

We would definately use Hammonds again
