Cracks in side of house...is this a problem?

Hi
I have for a few years had a vertical crack along the side of my end terraced house. The crack goes from I'd say above the front door to the guttering.
The crack can be seen in the pebble dashing of the wall. On the internal wall there is also a crack. Again vertical in roughly the same region.
Is this a very problematic issue or merely cosmetic. If it is something that needs seeing to then what type of builder/tradesman should I be speaking to?
Thanks

Can you get your finger in it?0
-
Not really a finger but very noticable.
On internal it is just a noticeable line and there is more than one of them.0 -
Could it have been caused by replacing the front door without adequate lintel supporting?0
-
I have never had front door replaced in my time at the house which is 10+ years. Reference to the door was just to say it is not from the base of my house. Think it was there when I moved in as I recall something on the HomeBuyers report which may have mentioned a crack. Only seems more noticeable now0

Get hold of a tell tale crack monitor will cost no more than 5 to 10 pounds fit it and see if there is any movement over the next few months .0

If it gets any worse definitely consult a structural engineer.
Otherwise, as above, monitor it and take photosChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Cracks in my walls similar to what you describe turned out to be subsidence ...
It has taken 18 months of monitoring by my insurance company and have finally got the sign off for underpinning and other repair work to be done.
I've been in my house for 16 years, and it was only 18 months ago that the cracks started appearing. I've not had any building work done in all the time I have been in my house, so the cracks were not as a result of recent building work.
Get a builder out to check. That is how I found out that my cracks were caused by subsidence.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
