Going back to your original question OP just do the change of keeper online when he picks the car up.0

Tax will cancel automatically anyway when dvla are notified.
Sign v5, give him greenslip and wave bye bye.
If he gets a ticket on way home you just respond with his name and address and be done with it0 -
You can now process the keeper change online which removes the possibility of lost V5 in the post

You get an email confirmation quickly and then a letter in the post as confirmation.0 -
Yep change keepers online there and then. They will get the new V5C in a few days. I bought a car on Monday and the new document arrived Wednesday.
Shocked it was that quick. Seller did it online.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Well the car has now gone and ive notified the dvla online change of keeper etc and got confirmation email. I askd the buyer when he insured it from and they said they did it friday which i expect confirms the thoughts on it been shown as insured etc . The question is now do i just wait and see what happens from the DVLA or contact them and tell them i cocked up. Best part of it the bloke who bought the car made the same mistake last year0

I wouldnt worry you probably wont get a fine, but just in case I would print off a SORN declaration complete it with the date you cancelled the insurance and keep a photocopy save in your drawer. Should you receive a fine in the future send off the copy of the SORN and say it must of got lost in the post, they may waive the fine.0
