Car selling question

Ive sold a car and the bloke is coming tomorrow to collect it, The car as it stands is MOT ed and taxed however isnt insured. Ive told the buyer the reg number etc so he can insure it before he drives off in it. The car weve had for a number of years , Im going to write a document basically getting him to sign and date and time etc saying that after that point any offences reg to the vehicle will be his responsabilty, Hes got to drive it 100 miles back to his house, and im abit worried he might have a heavy right foot and get speeding ticket etc which will come here. On the tax front what do i need to do? I pay monthly and i know i wont get any refund etc but i know the buyer will have to tax it from beginning of this month.
If in the unlikely event he does get done would the signed piece of paper bare any legality etc. Ive got the V5 doc for them to sign etc. The car has been off road for 3 months and has not been declared SORN and ive kept it taxed but as i said transfered the insurance onto another car.

  • So you've fallen foul of the continuance insurance rules?

You'll probably be getting a fine along with your change of keeper notice.

If your car is not insured then you MUST SORN it. Expect a ticket for not having continuous insurance or SORN'ing it.

Looks like ive made a big error on that front then. Never realised the car was stored at my workplace not insured but taxed and MOT i presume it will flag up when the change of keeper is reg. Any idea of the fine if issued ? looks ike a poss £80 am i right? I transfered the insurance about 6 weeks ago

Is the current car showing as insured?

  • Re to tax.
From the moment you sell the car it is no longer taxed.

The new owner must tax it immediately, not the beginning of next month. He should do this before he drives it. Yes, they now collect double tax on mid-month sales.

Yes it is and i never thought of the point on the new owner insuring it ill ask them tomorrow when they insured it from if it was before i looked at the MID site thats what i reckon has happened , The question is do i phone the dvla monday telling them i made a error and take it on the chin or wait till i hear or hopefully not hear but i think the point on the new owner insuring it is more viable.
