More environmentally friendly than burning fossil fuel, especially when I charge it with solar generated electricity.forgotmyname wrote: »DELUDED.

No you just moved the pollution further up the chain, deluding yourself to being greener.
How much pollution does your local power station produce? How much pollution created making the solar panels? Shall we start on the enviromental impact of making the batteries? How many hundreds of tons of material need to be excavated to gain 1kg or the ingredients for the batteries?
Still deluded.
PS. have you never needed to do a journey of more than 100 miles?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

No one is suggesting that electric cars dont result in pollution from manufacture and the electricity they use, the point is that over their life they are less polluting than the alternatives. They are the lesser of two evils.
And critically, much of the pollution released during use results in less damage and impact because it isn't being released in the middle of our towns and cities at ground level.
That fossil fuel power station you mention is more efficient and emissions better monitored and controlled than a car, and those emissions are released from tall chimneys to disperse well away from populated areas. Compare that to a conventional car driving along the high-street, where all the smoke/particulates, NOx, CO is released at ground level into the urban environment.0 -
Announcement at next month's Geneva Motor Show? Oh yes please:-
2018 Nissan Leaf spy shots http://buff.ly/2khxlEF
I think this is the first real hint of what the next production Leaf will look like. Personally I hope it looks more like the IDS concept than the test mule in these shots look very similar to the current car.
Nissan has invested alot in EVs but they now risk getting left behind if they don't get the next Leaf right as VAG are due to release their EVs soon, along with Jaguar, Damiler, GM the EV market is going to get crowed as we approach the end of the decade, but competition is good for consumers

Exactly.
Until we have the ability to extract hydrogen from water in a way that can be used in vehicles, I will stick to unleaded thanks.0 -

All the same questions could be asked about the production of a litre of fuel. Look into the payback time for solar panels and you may be pleasantly surprised. Look into the costs of refining a litre of fuel and you might be surprised in a less pleasant way. How many tons of overburden material to produce the steel for an oil refinery?
Electric cars are actually a good market for over-production of night time wind power and someone having their own solar panels and the awareness of their production is even better.
If you are so concerned about these matters I take it you don't have a mobile phone?0 -

There is no over production at night, when demand drops, the power stations turn down production, wind power just means they can ramp down production a little more.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Who would want to buy a leaf anyway? It looks boring, is stupidly expensive to buy and has a ludicrous rate of depreciation leaving a mere 23% residual value after 3 years. Add to that very mediocre performance and serious limitations in range.
I'd rather poop in my hands and clap than own one of those things.Battery rental is £70 per month or you could risk a £5000 bill for a battery if it packs in.
Obvious troll is obvious. You ever heard of PCP? Ever see anyone on here asking for economical cars? What are you comparing mediocre performance to? Did you mistake it for a sports car? Let's call the 30 kW Leaf 100 mile range, this new one would be 200. That's not what we're used to with petrol and diesel, but we're not used to having petrol stations in our driveways. Battery rental can be part of the PCP, and the batteries seem to be at least as reliable as any other random part of a petrol/diesel car that could also go wrong.
What do you drive?! Happy pooping! No you just moved the pollution further up the chain, deluding yourself to being greener
'the pollution'. THERE IS LESS POLLUTION! Less energy is used! That's also completely ignoring the electric that can be sourced renewably.Shall we start on the enviromental impact of making the batteries? How many hundreds of tons of material need to be excavated to gain 1kg or the ingredients for the batteries?
Give me a hint - is it more than the total of all the materials for any other car? Can you back that up or is this just FUD?Until we have the ability to extract hydrogen from water in a way that can be used in vehicles, I will stick to unleaded thanks.
Less than half the energy you burn from that unleaded fuel actually results in motion. You should also check out how much energy is put into extracting and transporting that unleaded to your pump. There is no over production at night, when demand drops, the power stations turn down production, wind power just means they can ramp down production a little more.
There would be over production at night time, gross, if power stations weren't turned down/ off. Stopping and starting things, peaks and troughs, is inefficient, so flattening out the demand results in more efficiency overall. That's why Economy 7 gives you cheaper electric at night time. It helps the grid.0
