Where to go on holiday advice please

I'd suggest Asia as its cheap hence a popular "backpacker" destination. But as you specify you want a bit of an adventure, I'd avoid Thailand as it is very mainstream - nice as it is, its not an "adventurous" destination. I'd suggest Sri Lanka, Vietnam or India if you want to "travel" rather than just go on holiday.
Or if Asia doesn't appeal, I'd suggest Mexico.0 -
I doubt they would get Thailand for £750 pp in the school holidays!0

Your info on Vietnam was comprehensive for us and we dipped our toe in HCMC for 6 days on our annual way back to UK from Singapore last year. Perhaps we shouldn't tar all of Vietnam with the same stick, but ...that was enough Vietnam for us even though we could stop off in Hanoi on our annual trip back to Singapore from UK at no extra charge, we fly Vietnam Air annually Sing/UK/Sing.PompeyPete wrote: »I'm in Hanoi now....cheap as chips.
Always a bit doubtful whether to give an opposing view on here if someone suggests a place but there you go.It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -

I too hated Vietnam - we went around an awful lot of the place a few years back, cities, towns and villages and shall not be returning. A few beautiful places, a few friendly locals but we found that too many locals see a western face and think it's someone to fleece.
OP- just looked on Momondo and, if your school holidays start 1st April like ours do, Sun 2nd April - Thurs 13th April return to Bangkok for £448pp using Jet Airways. Not direct, but layover times are bearable IMO for the price.
Once in Bangkok, the world is your oyster! Travel in Asia is very cheap, as are hotel stays and food. You could easily have a great time on the remaining £600 for 10 days.
Personally I'd spend the time travelling round Cambodia - easy enough to travel there from Bangkok. Phnom Penh and Siem Riep the 2 mainstays, but look into Battambang, Kep and Kampot too. The odd luxury night can be had at around £50 per night in PP, more in Siem Riep, less in the other places (though it's less luxury in those towns!)Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

At times I felt the same way in Cambodia, so it is interesting that you recommend the country. And twenty years ago people were saying exactly the same things about Thailand...0 -
For a two-week holiday, don't feel that it has to be long-haul. Two weeks in even a very cheap country is not long enough to compensate for spending a substantial amount on air travel, while there are better ways to spend your time than sitting on planes and in airports and then recovering from the journey. If you want an adventure, combined with what is probably the best food and drink in the world, consider Georgia.
Some-one mentioned inter-rail, which is great, although in Eastern Europe rail fares are so low that you might just as well simply buy tickets when you feel like moving rather than get a pass in advance.0 -
The only person who's seen me off in Hanoi in the last few days is an old woman flogging baguettes. If I'd gone to a bakery I could of bought 3 for the price she charged for one! But if The few extra dong she made off me helped to put food on her table then great.
Seriously though, sound homework before setting off to these strange countries with odd customs and ways of going about their life is important. It's usually the people who have an often avoidable bad experience that are the most vocal. The vast majority of visitors get on with it, thoroughly enjoy their experience, and can't wait to return for more.0
