Where to go on holiday advice please

Hi there,
I would like some advice about where to travel.
We are a couple (age 22 and 23) looking to go travelling/ on holiday for 1/ 2 weeks with a budget of approx £1500. (although open to suggestions if this is not feasible) Travel would need to take place during school holidays (April, or July/August)
We are from London, and are open to all suggestions, backpacking is what we are thinking, with a the possibility of a nice 'luxury' night to make a change from the cheaper hotels/hostels. Also open to a hotel holiday rather then hostels. Looking for somewhere more interesting then Spain for example ( I know its cheap but we would like a bit of an adventure!)
We enjoy hiking, sightseeing, beaches (most things basically)
Sorry I know I've not been specific on where we would like to go but would love suggestions that I might not of thought of!
Thank you for taking the time!

For me I'd suggest Crete, and more specifically a town called Stalis. Its not far from the airport and capital of the island, but its far enough away from it and the party town of Malia that if you don't want to party you don't need to.
It has a nice beach and loads of stuff nearby (water parks, ruins such as the Minoan capital Knossos, nature walks such as Samaria Gorge and boat trips up the coast) and a huge variety of taverna's.
I went with my fianc!e 4 years ago and we fell in love with the place, we go back every year. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -
I can't reccomed Thailand enough ! We were in Koh Samui !
More than a holiday it was an experience. We also visited the temples and we went into the jungle so to speak. Jumped off cliffs into waterfalls and swam with elephants. Food amazing, people amazing. Honestly loved every single minute of the holiday.
I think you would both love it
enjoy yourselves where ever you go ! 0 -
If you went to Thailand Id say go in April as weather is a bit mixed July and August I think. Possibly also look into interrailing:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

Love the idea of Thailand or similar, really love the idea of an adventure/experience, do you have any recommendations on how to do it on a budget during the school holidays? what to do/where to go/ where to stay. How do we keep costs down whilst still making the most of it
We want to make the most of our holiday as we haven't been away in forever!0 -
Inter railing sounds good any recommendations?0

I stayed at Ibis bophut ! I got a good package deal with BA ! Hotel was spotless and right on the beach. Around a ten minute walk to fishermans village where restaurants and things are.
Thailand is not overly expensive at all.
Myself and husband paid a taxi driver 2500 Thai bat which is like £46 odds. For that he picked us first thing in the morning in his fully air conditioned people carrier. He took us to all the amazing sights, temples, beaches that we would have never found ! He also took us to a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, it was right on the beach, the food was amazing and we got two bottles of coke each etc. The whole meal worked out £6 in our money including drinks. To end the day he took us to Chen wang (I've probably spelt it wrong) which is the main part of the island. To a big shopping centre really modern.
You can also go in and get a foot massage or back etc for £3.00 and they are soo soo good !
I would honestly move there tomorrow. So untouched and so perfect.0 -
If you are not bothered about having really hot weather Finland is good.
We went and saw brown bears and their cubs in the wild in August (runs to mid August) at Arola Bears where we stayed in a lovely chalet with own sauna and you can canoe in the river there which we did. All homemade food.
We also went white water rafting, to waterparks (both in hotels we stayed in), on a mountain sled run saw loads of reindeer on the roads and there's lovely beaches and pretty much unlimited forest so plenty of hiking with a few mountains. We stayed in hotels but I'm sure there would be cheaper options around. Flew with FinnAir via Helsinki to Oulu. You do need a car but driving is fun with more reindeer than cars on the road.
Also love Italy and Venice / Pisa/ Florence / Rome all fascinating and great train links, Pisa only needs a day and go up Leaning Tower and Florence a couple of days.
Never been but Croatia is good for water sports and can see Brown bears there with better weather.0 -
I have to say that Spain can be incredibly interesting: if you are willing to learn the language and find out a bit about the background it can reward you like very few places on earth.
Since your time is limited it is not worth going to a long-haul destination like Thailand: after the long flight and then recovering from it and adjusting to a different time zone perhaps half your holiday would have gone. Instead, you might consider Morocco; Turkey (only the safe parts) or perhaps somewhere like Romania. All are easily accessible and good value, yet offer lots to discover and plenty of opportunities for 'off the beaten track' adventures.0 -
Totally agree with this- forget the Costas..... think Madrid, Granada with Alhambra, Seville, Toledo as well as the very green north. Madrid etc very hot in the summer, that's why the locals move out!Voyager2002 wrote: »I have to say that Spain can be incredibly interesting: if you are willing to learn the language and find out a bit about the background it can reward you like very few places on earth.
Turkey & mainland Greece can also be hot, hot hot in August would be pleasant in April (assuming weather follows a 'normal' pattern!!)
Austria perhaps? Lots of walking in the alps using the cable cars/ chair lifts and swimming in the lakes.
Italy? walking in Dolomites, northern lakes, Rome & Florence, Amalfi coast with Pompeii & Mt Vesuvius..?
Lots of stunning places without travelling too far, especially if you have limited time.
Hostelling?
"When you become a member of YHA (England & Wales) you automatically become a member of Hostelling International. This should come as great news! Why? Well because membership of Hostelling International gives you access to over 4,000 hostels worldwide as well as a whole range of other great perks. "
Train ravel :"Travellers under 26 can travel in Europe with an Interrail youth pass that gives a massive 35% discount on the adult price."
think you could have a fascinating time , perhaps both in April & August!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
