Free AV's are not worth it: their databases are always way behind. I use Kaspersky Total Security, always rated as best by the industry.
    That is wrong.
I use Kaspersky Total, but, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss free AV's. For general home use they are more than enough.
If I wasn't getting Kaspersky free via a Barclays account I'd certainly go back to free.

Ditch Vista, upgrade to Windows 10, ditch third party AV and use Windows Defender, don't install Flash, install an Adblocker and make sure software is up to date.

On Firefox, at least, it doesn't prevent the BBC News bottom-of-screen 'breaking news' pop-up.
Neither does Ghostery (although there's no reason why it should!)...

Just in an attempt to prevent an easily cancellable popup on BBC News? :rotfl:
    Ever-so-slight overkill?

We have little idea whether that is the issue though, as the OP's posts are hard to decipher, and I've not seen anything to confirm that it is the breaking news that he's trying to stop - I suspect that it isn't, but I also suspect that we may never know for sure.

You have malware on your machine - plain and simple.

Follow the instructions you have been given regarding malwarebytes and ADW cleaner.
