This is to ensure you only transfer money into the account once you have received your debit card, once activated you will see your full account details online and be able to transact normally.0

Well done folks.
You have given Tesco loads of details to apply to their accounts.
Hopefully !! no-one from Tesco reads these0 -

I'm still confused, presumably I need to register for on line banking. To do this requires a sort code and account number, I've just been through it again. This is the first page copy and pasted.Register for Online Banking

Andromodean,
If you have received a debit card for your current account the sort code and account number should be on the card at the bottom in the following format.
40-XX-XX 123456780 -
Did you look at the Examples link I posted?
All images of Tesco current account debit cards, like this :
The info needed will be located as detailed by myself & the above poster.0 -

I don't know what you are doing different - but no it doesn't require sort code and account number.
I applied for a Tesco account early last week.
I received the confirmation email the following day, stating the debit card would follow in a few days, and also a link inviting me to set up online banking. This I did - no account details asked or given.
Monday the PIN arrived, Tuesday the card arrived, logged on and could see the account. Logged on to the lower interest account elsewhere and transferred money in, job done.
- easy process
- all comms very clear
- rapid setup
- good online banking interface
What's not to like?
- that I was too slow to open a second account !The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Looks like Tesco follow different comms though.
I applied last Friday. On screen a successful message.
Text confirming account set up Sun.
Temp online banking security pin in post Wed.
Debit card pin in post Thurs.
Wecolme pack today in post with account numbers.
Hopefully andromedean has located account details on debit card now & can set up online banking.0 -
I've finally got into online banking after spending about an hour on the phone with 3 assistants. Part of the problem seemed to be that it had recorded a different date of birth, although that doesn't explain why they didn't send me a welcome pack or why I received a four digit security number rather than a six digit one (as well as a four digit number for the card). I think it was further complicated due to the fact that the on-line banking system had retained some details from an old Tesco Credit card account I had closed.0

Bearing in mind the current account offer has been so popular that they have had to suspend it i'm so impressed with Tesco i'm considering moving my current account and savings account and my credit card from HSBC to Tesco been with HSBC since it was Midland almost 30 years, and cant remember why i pay them £10 pm for my current account :sad:Blue n White0 -

Which type of account do you have with HSBC? None of their main ones now charge a fee - the one which does has very few customers afaik0
