Tesco bank suspend new applications

Options
Hi all,

I'm sure on one of the Tesco posts this is mentioned. But thought I would just highlight this, as a customer and having to wait over 30 mins each time I need to contact them, don't think it's a bad thing till they get there resources sorted.

We’ve had brilliant feedback to our Current Account Guarantee. Due to unprecedented demand we’ve paused new applications. More Info; http://www.tescobank.com/current-accounts/

  • BOS are still a good option, opened my third yesterday

I agree that it's a good account, but it's not really a substitute for Tesco given all the extra requirements (especially to have three of them).
  • I had a look at the account on Thursday night and could have applied then but thought I'd wait till today so I had more time to fill it in properly. Just looked now and it's been suspended. This account was ideal for me as I don't have the requisite £1000 a month to deposit that other accounts demand. I'll have to keep an eye on it and apply as soon as they start it up again.

If you don't have the "requisite £1000 a month" that other accounts demand, do you perhaps have £500 which could go in, come out, and go in again?

Or £250 which could go in, come out, go in, come out, go in, come out, and go in again?

    Get the idea?;)
  • Think I applied for our second account on Wednesday evening. Had the relevant emails back and waiting for application pack to drop through the letterbox. Just in time.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

It is faintly depressing. Anything intended as a nice little bonus for people using a particular bank immediately gets pounced on and ends up withdrawn because MSErs want to stick savings in it/run £1000 through it for 2 seconds a week and get free money.

They're perfectly entitled to do so by the letter of the terms and conditions, but at the same time it does rather ruin it for those who want to use these offers as intended.

Their savings accounts can still be opened if you are going to use one of those for direct debit requirements on a different account.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
