Scam phonecall pretending to be TPS

Here's the latest one.
Man with Indian accent. Said his name was Jerry and that he was phoning from the Telephone Preference Service (TPS).
Addressed me as Mrs [first initial of my oh's first name + his surname] which anyone can look up in the phonebook.
Asked me if I was this person. I didn't tell him. I just pressed the red button.
Apparently they are trying to get you to register & they want you to give them your card details but this one didn't get that far.

Why is it always India? After all, that's the country in which so many UK businesses invest so much money in Call Centres.0

Also, India is considered acceptable for security of personal data by the EU (I think that's under the "safe harbour" scheme).0 -

Because it is very cheap - both staff /calletime, they don't ask too many questions and are two steps removed from the UK (via 3rd-party brokers in other countries) which seriously frustrates any attempts to bring the perps to UK justice.0 -

Really cannot find any reference that India is in the Safe Harbour Scheme.
Everything implies that this is an EU/US thing
Can you point me to a site that states this?I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
