    Hi,

I had a scan done with a company called Vista Diagnostics. they are based 1 minute from Waterloo station, so very convenient if you're in the London area. they were cheap too.. £200 for my scan but the price obviously varies if you are having a larger area scanned. Overall i was very happy with their service and it definitely beats waiting for the NHS!

Sorry to wake up an old thread, but I am interested in getting an MRI scan. Anybody body got any upto date recommendations of places in or around London? Is £200 still a good price?

I didn't have to go self-funded in the end, my insurance company agreed to pay.
  • My son needs an MRI on his back and its going to be 6 months on the NHS, my doctor here in Warwickshire told us about the cheapest MRI, around £200 at a Private Solihull hospital, which I think is the Spire Parkway Hospital, calling them tomorrow to check it out. You can have one in 48 hours with a docs. letter and get result in 2/3 days.

  • vista diagnostics still seem to be the cheapest around- I did my research recently and they couldn't be beaten on price. You need to book early to get the best prices because they use an easyjet style system where the more slots they have free the cheaper the mri scan. I can't fault the service and speed of results though..

The cheapest may not be the best. You need to ask who is interpreting your scans. As a NHS doctor I often see people who have had private scans done. Often these need to be re-reported by NHS consultants as the initial report missed important pathology.

I would therefore ask: is the reporting doctor a NHS consultant? do they specialise in that area of MRI radiology? (e.g. I have all knee, hip etc. MRIs looked at by a radiologist specialising in musculoskeletal radiology).

If the reporting doctor is not working for the NHS and does not sub-specialise in that particular branch of radiology then I would seriously go somewhere else even if that means paying more.

if you do get one privately, see if you can get a disc with the whole scan on it to be able to give to anyone who might be involved with any care. that way you can get it seen by a specialist radiographer/consultant, rather than them just getting the report.

I know 2 NHS radiographers in the North West who are setting up a business and have qualifications to report with a backup team of Radiographers who are also NHS employed currently just in case they need a second opinion. I know that might not help the people based in the southern region but our aim is to provide NHS quality at the speed of private sector facilities and not loose anything in translation. We are having our site built at present but are looking to have things up and running soon.

It's a bit naughty to resurrect a 6 month old thread in order to promote your own company.
